We pulled a Montana 06 Montana 3400 at @ 13.5kK with a 2005 F-350, V-10,4:30 diff.MPG towing 5 to 7mpg sometimes a 8. Did OK on fairly level ground but faded on the hills and really labored in the big mountains out west
We changed to the same truck in 2008 but a 6.4L diesel.
Having said that IMO 10K is about the limit for the gasser. You should be OK.. Give it a good try then evaluate.

I am using a 2005 2500 SRW 8.1L with 4.10 gears and pulling a toy hauler that has a max of 16K. We only load it to about 14K and get 8-9mpg adverage. We use the tow/haul mode when hitting the hills and also drop out the overdrive. So far so good. Got the gas due to the lack of diesel stations in our area and we use the TV for more than just the trailer. We have been through all kinds of wind/rain/snow/sunsine/etc with no problems.

2006 Chevy 2500HD with 6.0 gasser and 4:10 rear end, pulling a 10k lb, 32 foot Cedar Creek. Does OK for us, but we keep to no more than 65 mph on the intestate and usually a couple of miles below. Average 8 - 8.5 mpg on the highway. Does fine for us, but have yet to tow at high altitudes (above 6,000 feet). We're about 5 years from retirement when we'll be spending some serious time on the road (6 to 9 months/year), and I expect that we'll want a beefier TV by that time. For now, keep in tow/haul, don't be afraid of the RPM's (especially for those long downhill grades), take your time with the speeds, and you'll be fine.

I also have been getting 8-9 MPG with our 5th wheel. Hills it pulls down and the RPM's do go up. I have upgraded my exaust system and going to upgrade air intake soon. Exaust gave me more HP and seems to do a better job. The truck is paid for and I am not in a hurry to get up the hills. Our FW is about 11k.

I have towed a 12K fiver for over 10 years with a Ford V-10, 4.30 gears. I average 8.25 mpg and have towed passes in the Rockies. Yes I have gotten down to 45 mph near the summit, however, I don't recall racing anyone to the top. 4000 rpms is about what it hits on those steep (7%) grades and it doesn't even scream at that level.
Except for some belts, belt pulleys and batteries, have had trouble free 175,000 miles. I wouldn't hesitate to use another one. Don't know about the Chevy and Dodge gassers, only speaking from first hand knowledge of the V-10.

We pull a 38' Montana High Country (weights less than 10K) with an F-250 gas engine. Pulls great and we get about 10-mph when towing.

Towing a 2010 Jayco 315RLDS at 9960 lbs with a 2009 GMC 2500HD, 6.0L, gas. Lock out 6th gear (overdrive) with manual shift mode, turn on tow mode, run max 65 mph, at about 2500 rpm. Does well in most instances, get about 8 mpg.

I had GMC with the 6.0 and would typically see 8-9 mpg. I can only remember one time that I was able to get 10 mpg. I think if you are pulling short trips you would be fine. I didn't like the high RPM's felt like you were always in the gas and running the truck hard. Going longer distances you will be fine, just might not be the most enjoyable.
