As many of you know the kitchen grey water tank can be more stinky than the black water tank. I've used the Thetford Grey water odor control additive in the past. A friend of mine pours vinegar in her tank. What other methods or products have been successful for you? BTW I keep the valve closed since our park up in the north woods doesn't have on-site sewer facilities.

Treat it, wash it, clean it just like the black tank and problem solved.

I would put a couple of cups of bleach in it, let it sit for a few days, then dump, and rinse thoroughly. Then add about 1/4 cup of bleach every few days. Sounds like you are letting it sit for several days unused and un-dumped, of course it's going to stink. If you are not using it a lot, your traps could be dried out and letting the odor up in the camper.

I don't understand how the smell is getting past the under sink trap. If there is water in the trap it is impossible for the smell to come past the water. I would start there by making sure there is water in the trap.

The diaphragm in the vent under the sink may be defective.

First of all - bleach is a big no no. It eats up the valve seals.

The RV is in continuous use. I do reverse flush the tank every 30 days. I dump the kitchen tank into a "blue tank on wheels" every 5 days. This is when I notice the odor - it's horrendous both when dumping into the blue tank and when emptying it into the dump station.

I'll check out that check valve on the vent under the cabinet.

I too am parked without hookups. I am allowed to dump gray water. I keep the valves closed and dump when full like you do. Since this water is being dispersed right by my MH I MAKE SURE it smells nice when dumped!

If you have a Publix grocery store they have a great orange cleaner for a couple of bucks that I pour into the gray tank and it takes care of all odors. Comes in a quart bottle. I also do 'not' allow food stuffs and/or any type of grease/fats go down my MH drain.

I 'personally' do not use any product with the word 'sol' in it.
If you don't have a problem with it, Mr. Clean, Lysol, Pinesol and generic versions of them will as well to keep odors at bay and keep your tank clean, and are more economical than Thedfords tank cleaner. Although I do faithfully use Thedfords once a month or so as it cleans the sensors too.

I have had some success using liquid, scented fabric softener in the holding tank. Sometimes the gray water smells pretty good. But, on the other hand, sometimes it doesn't. I'm not sure what the difference is, since the same stuff goes into it every time.

x2. Find out where the smell is coming from should be your first concern.

Hi,

Use a strainer when dumping water down the sinks. It keeps the grey water tank a lot nicer.
