We live north of Dallas and want to go on our first long trip camping trip in April. Not wanting a super long drive. Would love a state park (with sewer & great scerery, preferably) that would be within 20-30 minutes of sightseeing, arts, museums, antique shops, etc.
Any recommendations?

Moab, Utah for Easter Sunday the 4x4 events, but that's just me a jeepoholic to the core, it's always at the top of my wish list this time of the year.
How about Austin, TX? There's a great state park with nice hiking trails (perfect for pooches) right outside of town, it's not too far from Dallas, plus you'll have access to art, food trucks, BBQ etc. We stayed there w/ pooch last year and LOVED it!
After years of touring the western states, we have some "favorite" destinations and area. New Mexico is one of our "go to" places to get out and explore.
It's not that far from you in the State of New Mexico, and along the Hwy 40 to Albuquerque there are a ton of National Forests, and many, many beautiful State Parks, and of all the designated "Scenic Highway and Byways" areas.
The U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes these designated roads out of the 126 America Byways, this area has 25 of them...which means they are known for the intrinsic qualities - archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, or scenic.
More stuff that will appeal to the explorer in you! More goodies
Have fun..and bring a camera!

Big Bend is always good. Central Texas such as Fredricksburg come to mind without kids. Up in Oklahoma are several great lake destinations.
Just beware Spring break is upon us!

If you had 1O days, no kids, and 2 dogs, where would you go?
It would start on a Sunday, about 10 AM
I would be sitting on the toilet, looking at the Sunday Sports section
The bathroom door....may not have been closed behind me
My eyes are open, but I am asleep
No one is calling me to "come here" - for at least an hour
I am at peace.
Are you saying I could do this for 10 days? in a row?
Where do I sign up?
