I understand wanting the American made tires, but the wheels, at least in our experience have NOT been an issue. Our 16" aluminum rims NEVER gave us any problems...ask to talk to Scott, he can give you the information you need, and possibly put your mind at ease about the rims.

I put the HiSpec 16" wheels on my fiver. I have not had any problems with them. When they came in, I saw the made in China on them and had my doubts. I looked them over very carefully, and they appear to be well made. Rare for China -- but then again, when I was a kid, made in Japan meant it was junk. Now look where they are (same can be said for Detroit in the late 70s).

kakampers, I might be over reacting but one of my cast aluminum wheels has a crack in it, about 2.5" long. I can't imagine how that would happen. The tire guys was in disbelief. Thats the only wheel issue I have had, the tire issues, well there are several with the original China tires. I was told that getting a 17.5" H, I or J rated tire would be eaiser to find than a 16" G rated.

Maybe the rim was mishandled when the tire was mounted ?

Don't think you are over reacting, however, any product, no matter where it is made can fail. Based on the majority of experiences even foreign made tires have a very good record, therefore, I would not be overly concerned about their origin...tires on the otherhand are a whole nuther story.

Sendel has had issues with their aluminum wheels -many OEMs use this brand of wheel due to the price structure.
HiSpec Wheel has features like the steel insert to prevent lug nut gall out. Alcoa doesn't have this .....
If money is no object buy the alcoa wheels and Michelin tires. If money needs to be "rationed" a little go with the HiSpec and Sumitomo ST727 tires. Lots of options on the 215/75R17.5 tires in F, G, H and J Load Range.
Brands run from a glut of no name chinese and the Cooper RM160 on the low end of the price range to the upper end Michelins/Bridgestone/Toyo.

If you tow above 62MPH -make sure you check speed ratings on the perspective tire.

I have the same 16" wheels with G-Rated China tires and from what I have been told, you can't get a heavier tire on a 16" wheel, is that true? With a 17.5" wheel, I can go up to a commercial rated H or J rated tire which can handle much more weight at a much lower pressure.
