I'm looking for a ladder to use in our bunkhouse trailer. The kids are growing and I just can't pick them up and throw them in the upper bunk like i use to
Can anyone offer some suggestions? Was think about just building a wooden ladder but something steel or fiberglass would probably be better. Maybe even something collapsible???

You would probably do best with some something similar to the ladder on a metal slide that you'd have on the backyard swing set. Maybe you could find one at a junkyard?

Other option is to build it out of either lumber or maybe metal conduit, and have a local Welding shop weld it for you and reenforce it.

You may also want to check with the Mfgr....maybe they offer a ladder for that model RV, that was never installed or lost (previous owner?). Might be cheaper than trying the other options.

Good luck

I'd offer you ours but we already gave it away. Our kids never used it, they climbed in on their own since they were 3 or 4 and I found it was always in the way. Kids are like monkeys let 'em climb.

Different trailers have different configurations of bunks, so its hard to say, but I did put these Clicky in our park model when we had it. Now our bunks are 1/2 tucked in behind the bathroom and the kids are bigger, so they just climb in.
Oh, and I did have to trim that ladder so it stood more vertical.

I was looking at the ladders on the bunkhouse trailers at the Omaha camper show since I need one for my camper too. Most of them were 2x2 lumber with 1" round wooden dowels through them. I didn't get any pics but that's what I am going to build

I built one out of 1x red oak. I put a piece of 1" dowel rod across the tv opening in the center clothes closet and the ladder hangs from that so both left and right bunks can access it and it's removable when not in use.

Tech tip: ours didn't have "hooks" on the top so I took 2 metal L brackets and bent them into a C. Then I covered them in some extra tubing I had from my winterizing kit so they wouldn't mar up the high quality finish on the bunks ;-)

Thanks folks. Some very good ideas I can work with. Our bunk configuration is also tucked the behind the bathroom. My son (who likes the top bunk) had no trouble at all climbing in when he was younger but now that he is bigger it's time for a ladder. This should also keep him from knocking the thermostat off the wall with has also happened a few times. Thanks again!

We bought virtually the same ladder from a different vendor. You can find that ladder with brackets that attach to the side of the bunk so it will not move about when in place but can be removed and stored. That aluminum ladder can also be found at boating web sites.

I made a ladder out of 1" PVC pipe and several "T's".
I put a cap on the bottom of the legs and a 90 on the top and a short length of pipe to hang over the edge of the bunk. I drilled holes through those short sections of pipe and into the bunk wood so I can drop pins in to secure it. It is removable and light weight.
