The laws did change. The previously mentioned rules about lower left corner and lower right corner are correct.
I still wouldn't mount it there. I have more obstruction with my pillar, and I sure don't need a GPS sitting there making it worse. At least in our vehicles and seating positions, the GPS mounted on the windshield and resting on the dash only obstructs a view of the hood and nothing else. I've always put them there and will continue to do so.

When towing I always mount the GPS on the rear view mirror. The mirror is useless and I always catch myself checking it from force of habit. Great place for a GPS. It's also a lot closer.

It may or may not make a difference. Depends on the LEO and/or their department. You would probabl,y get hit more with it in a smaller community. In a larger community, there is much more going on than to worry about that type of thing unless is reallly noticeable. That's not to say they pull you over for speeding and tack that on as well. Or if you happen to come upon an ID check point, then you may be cited for it.

But as another stated, it is the motorists duty to know the laws of where they are driving. Do they? No not really.

Mine is right in the middle of the dash. Do not see where that blocks anything. Unless you are a midget.

I suction mount mine beside the rear view mirror. It leaves a completely open view. Unless an airplane is coming down at me from above, I have 100% vision of the road! LOL If it is mounted above line of vision, how can it interfere?

The only warning device I want on my dashboard is :

Warning! Driver /ahead of/behind/next to/ you has their eyes in their lap while paging thru their cell phone looking for a phone number. Your roof mounted laser cannon is locked on and ready to fire.

As always, when stating "the LAW", it would be very helpful to give the actual statute number for reference, or even cut and paste the text of the statute.

I also have mine next to the mirror and I also have a clear view. I am not tall so I do not use the upper portion of the windshild for viewing. I have found that to be the best place for me. Putting it in the left lower section of the windshield would be blocking some of my view out that section. This law doesn't make any sense to me. Can any LEO tell us why we can't have it next to the mirror? Guess I won't be going to California.

More than likely no, as LEO's don't make laws, they just enforce them, whether they make sense or not.
