I am getting rid of my 225/75r15 load e Carlisle tires and thinking of getting a set of 6 bolt hole aluminum trailer wheels with 235/80/16 bias load e. Any thoughts on using bias tires?
UPDATE! the guy told me wrong they are Radials after all.

I am getting a pretty good deal, I think. 190 each for new tire and wheel.

Though radials are a better tire, for the price you're getting them, not a bad deal.
You should, however, have them balanced before installing them.
Good luck.

The biggest advantage to radial tires is they run much much cooler than bias. If you never run in warm/hot weather, not a problem.

Just get 16" LT tires and be done.

Tire and wheel for $190? Not sure I'd expect much in the way of a quality tire or wheel for that price - JMO

If you're moving to a 16" rim, go to an LT tire and be done. I'm of the opinion tires are not the place to be frugal. One nasty blowout can have you spending almost as much as the total you're looking at just for the insurance deductible to repair the damage.

Kudos for going in the right direction with your tires and wheels though. Peace of mind while you're towing is priceless...

Oh, and make sure your new wheels are rated for the air pressures associated with E rated tires (80-110 PSI depending on the tires you get).

If your upgrading to 16" wheels and tires I sure wouldn't put any brand ST tire back on the trailer that size.

As was suggested a LT225/75-16 E @29.3" diameter or LT235/85-16 E @ 31.5" diameter (if there's room under the wheel well) will be the best upgrade.

Bias ply tires are ancient tech. Their better suited for lawn service trailers for around town runs or a trailer out on the farm.

Bias tires will work OK but will run hotter than radials and likely will wear faster. Heat is hard on an ST rated tire because of all of the lateral forces they under-go when taking any corner. I like the extra safety of the radial on my trailer. Never had a blow out in 80,000 towing miles and want to keep it that way. No Chinese made tires on my rig either Maxxis all the way.

I've found that radial trailer tires have a lot more grip when it comes to stopping.
