While many have dedicated GPS's, there are many here that also use their Android phone and Google Maps. Maps is really terrific and often (not always)shines in comparison to ones GPS offering. Anyway, known to few using Google Maps, there are "Labs" that you can put into play that without a doubt make your Maps experience even better..

To activate Labs:

Open the Google "Maps" app on your Android phone
When in Maps, go to Menu and then to SETTINGS
Now go to Labs
Now, select the desired Labs you wish to activate

For me I consider "Bubble Buttons" and "Bigger Text" must have
labs. Scale Bar and Measure and Pre-Cache Map are may also be desired by you.

Forgot to mention. Bubble Buttons gives you little icons/buttons at locations on your map like SRS Automotive, Roosevelt Mansion, Culinary Institute of America, Vassar Hospital, Hyde Park Police, state Police, Joe's Pizza, etc. indicating where the specific business/site is located on the Google map. Click on the bubble and a pop up appears with the phone number and also an icon that will activate Google Navigator that gives you directions to that business/site/location.

I don't think that's the case - I've seen nothing on any incompatibility for Maps & the GNex. That would be a pretty big deal that would be all over the forums. Are you running vanilla Android or a custom ROM?

Thank you. The bigger text is really good for my old eyes. And I always wondered why that scale that shows up in my browser did not show up in Maps

Great tip - thanks! The pre-cache map feature has some excellent potential too. Being a boater and obsessed with distances, the cumulative measuring tool will no doubt come in handy.

More useful in Google Maps is the the 'My Maps' feature.

You can sit down at your PC, log into your google account and create maps with your own pushpins.

I always do this when I am planning a trip. I put all of the places that I want to go on their own map. I name that map appropriately and then, using the same login account on my phone, I can access that map and immediately get directions to any of the places that I saved.

You can even share these maps with others.
