Hello everyone! I really enjoy the informative threads that are posted.I have a 2011 Cougar 27 SAB xtra lite 5th wheel. Can I put a hitch on it to pull my 16 ft larson fibreglass boat that has a 90hp outboard motor? My dealer said the trailer isn"t strong enough and will void my warranty, yet another dealer said it's not a problem. Any advice is appreciated. Tim
Thats a perdy heavy boat,.....you'd be on your own IMO.

It is difficult for me to judge the trailer strength from so far away, but a local certified welder can answer those questions.
I know a guy who tows his boat behind his dad's fifth wheel, using a extra short pickup, so that he stays below the 65' overall length. He already has a commercial truck driver's license, and that he gets his medical certificate updated before he can double tow the two trailers.
You also need to keep a logbook, and make sure that you have it filled out, with break times, and the last time you "Went into service". THat way if pulled over more than 10 hours later, the highway patrol can fine you! If less than 10 hours time in service, and you went into service in a location that you can drive here from that location without exceeding about 50 miles each hour, you will no get fined for speeding either.
That warranty on your 5er frame will be void, no if, ands or buts. You could also have total length issues. Many states only allow 65' max.
Having said that, lots of folks do it where its legal.
In 19 states it's illegal to triple tow. Usually 65' is max length for towing also. You MUST have a seperate braking system, safety chains & additional insurance rider (If your insurance will cover the boat behind the trailer) To me it's not IF you have a wreck...it's WHEN you have a towing problem....once that starts whipping, it's no stopping it....a sure wreck.....You'll get many pro & con on this subject....it's been beat to death

Looks like a heck of a setup, nice done. Any issues with the legality in GA?
