i just herd a blip on the news that gas might hit $8 a gallon by 2020. With that in mind, would I replace my truck and TT in a few years when I retire with a newer one? With a fixed retirement income and the price of fuel going up is this a good plan? We all know that when gas jumps up the value of RV's fall so the ability to get out of one gets slim. Even a simple 1000 miles a month at 10 MPG is $800 at that rate. Add that to the cost of new equipment. It might not hit 8 but it will probably be more than today. So is this my last RV? I really don't know what I will do but I will do a lot of thinking before I sign any papers.

If you do the math it indicates $8 gallon is probably possible for 2020. We haven't stopped RVing in 2012 so I doubt we will stop in 2020 at $8 per gallon.

When I was 16 we paid 25 cents a gallon, when there was a gas war we could get it for 15 cents. Filled up my 49 ford for $4. The price has raised every year. As fulltime I look at it as replaceing heating a house, paying utilities, and property taxes for diesel.

I'll be dead by then so nothing to worry about. I'm not going to worry about $4 gas now either.

Wow, you plan to be dead in 8 years? Hang in there a little longer and see if you like it.

I might not be camping then as the kids will probable take my keys away. I remember in the 40s and 50s gas was 12 cents a gallon as we lived on a farm
but you had to buy 500 gallons which was delivered. Even then people would try to steal it from our holding tank and tractors etc

Am in the UK right now. Gas is $8.30/US gallon. Doesn't seem to have stopped people driving their Mercedes/BMW/Jaguar/Porsches. I've seen a lot of Range Rovers pulling travel trailers (caravans over here) and they don't get good mileage EMPTY!
I'm afraid we are going to have to get used to paying World prices sooner or later and that may be MORE than $8/gallon.

At this point I am thankful that I can still use my RV. When the price of fuel gets to $8/gal I will have more important things to worry about than whether or not I can use my RV for recreational purposes, I may need to use it for survival.

People said "no way I will pay a dollar for a gallon of gasoline!"
Then "no way I will pay 2 dollars for a gallon of gasoline!"
Then "no way I will pay 3 dollars for a gallon of gasoline!"
Guess what. They did. Still do. And more. And will continue to.
It is more than 10 times what I paid for it as a teenager.
$8 would only double what it is now.
