We went to Camping World in Springfield Mo. this afternoon, just to go look at all the RVs and to see what was out there. We noticed that every used unit that they had was filthy. They were never cleaned up or detailed. They showed remnants from the previous owners, food debris in cabinets, black toilets, sinks, and showers. Damaged places from neglect or abuse. Some had mold and mildew growing on the walls from very evident water leaks. Stuff dripping out of compartments, oil puddles in the basement, etc.. I mentioned this to several sales people. They said those were consignment units. I replied not all of them. They said Camping World policy is not to do any thing with them until they sell. What the HE**! My wife would not go in half of them because of the smell. A couple I went into almost made me sick from the smell. I don't see how they can sell any of them in that kind of condition. The only ones hat looked respectable, was the new ones. I would never buy an RV from them! Let alone let them work on mine!

Their primary focus is not to sell a used unit! It's their NEW units that they want to sell! This isn't exclusively a CW issue! I went to several other RV lots and some of them reaked and were absolutely filthy!

Would you sooner see the real unit, or would you want it all cleaned, deoderized and hid all the damage from you????
I would prefer the real thing. If it has not been taken care of then you do not have to buy it. However if damage is hidden behind a good detail job you could have a worse and more expensive experience.
Good on Camping World for not hiding the issues with used units.

Then why have them on the lot? If they are junk, just wholesale them off. I go to a dealer to see what they have for sale, not what should be towed to a junk yard. Car dealer keep the good stuff and wholesale the junk, why not CW?

Looking forward to CW coming to town. Some competition and new choices should be a good thing. I don't usually look at used RV's.

When I was looking for a 5er I looked at used ones at each dealer. Believe me when I say I was at a lot of them! None of the 5ers or TT were cleaned up. Yes they smelled and were filthy! That was a mega turn off for me.
I ordered a new one instead of trying to stomach the filth in a used one. I think this must be the practice of all dealers. It is too bad as I think they could sell more RV's if they would clean them up since not everyone can afford a new RV. I was just very blessed to have the money to pay cash for mine.

Our experience with the same situation was about the same. They had the price marked and they were in our price range and then they said there was a $1200 prep fee (plus tax...wtf?) that included them cleaning it and testing all the appliances.
Shouldn't they test them before they set a price on them?
They also said "Sign the papers, and give us your money, and you can come and get your USED camper from us in A MONTH.
We bought elsewhere.
And we had our trade-in in tow and were ready to buy on the spot with cash.

We had an excellent experience with buying from Camping World in Belleville, MI a year ago. The used units were all clean and the rig we bought was detailed inside and out. No hidden charges with a operation check with a service tech.
