Why didn't you get the touch key pad on the door. You set the code number punch in that number and the door is unlocked. I have that on my Ford diesel dually. Works great.

Just a word of warning to those who think their vehicle won't lock the door; as a used vehicle dealer - we've had cars do that, even though the owner's manual says it can't happen. (It just happened to my daughter on Sunday - car was running, she got out to get something from the house, the wind blew the door shut and it locked) There are so many computers and sensors in these cars - all it takes is one to go haywire, (or the battery dies in the fob) and strange stuff starts to happen

If the Home Depot was still open, you have no excuse, just run back in and buy whatever you need. One of my unofficial duties at work is breaking in to cars after people lock their keys inside. It's really not that hard. Get a wooden or plastic door wedge, pull on the top edge of the door and stick a wedge in, get a better grip, yank and put the wedge in a little more. Once you have some working room, reach in with something long and stiff and hit the unlock button or hook the door button if you have one of the old fashioned ones. You can bend a car door an incredible amount without damaging anything.
Also, if you're only going to get a spare key unlock the door, you don't need one of those fancy "smart keys" a dumb old blank will work in the door.
You could try this if you had one of the old fashioned buttons- unlock car with a shoelace

When I was 15 I took my moms 64 Chevy Biscayne to town for fun. I accidentally locked the keys in the car. I was in a big panic because I was driving on my farm permit, I wasn't suppose to be doing this, and my parents had told me never to drive that old piece of junk more then 15 miles from home because when it broke down (and it often did) it was just too far away to easily drag it home with a log chain .
My friends gave me tons of grief for ever locking the doors in the d**med thing in the first place because no one would ever want to steal it. Then one of them just got on the ground and put his arm up through one of the rusty holes in the floor and unlocked the door.

In the past, I have locked myself out of every car we have had...even locked myself out of the house a time or two. That is why I love my Ford. It has the touch keypad on the door. I never have to worry about locking myself out of the car. Now if they could make one for the house I would be in business!

The other day I stopped for a coffee. Watched a young man enter his passcode (bank card) at the counter. Drove by the guy about 8 blocks later, stopped him and told him his password..... He was surprised and appreciative. When you go and get gas and pay at the pump there is a sticker that says 'your activity will be monitored by camera for your own protection'. yea - right........ best learn to cover up when using them on your truck. BTW, can you change your passcode on your truck w/o going to a dealer?

Locks My daughter has one of those numeric pads on her front door. Works great. She doesn't have to dig in her purse for her keys or even worry about find a key.
If one doesn't want to install one of the keypads, just store a key somewhere around the outside of your house. I know, then you have to worry about the bad guy find it. What I did was get myself a small mold, filled it partway with plaster of Paris, added the key, and completed filling the mold. Once it hardened I removed it, painted it in the manner of a young grandchild, and then put it lying out in the back yard. If a bad guy finds it he won't know it contains a key and if I need it I only have to break it open.

I was at the grocery store one afternoon and another woman had locked her Tahoe keys in her car. Just happened that I also had a Tahoe, I walked up and inserted my key into her keyhole and voila, the door unlocked!! They only make so many locks per vehicle, it is very likely that your key will unlock someone elses car.

On the Fords you can change the code any time and as many times as you want. Also the factory code is never deleted. So you always have two codes that will unlock your door.
