Stock older Ram 3500 dually, no problem. My AF weighed just under 3800 lbs delivered, not much different than a comparable Lance.

Truck Camper Magazine lists the 2012 AF 990 metal frame as weighing 4748 pounds wet. This number also includes an assumed 500 pounds of personal additions.

I don't think the older models weigh that much. AF went to a 3" thick rounded roof and some other changes, so perhaps that is where the additional weight is derived.

My 2001 AF 990 wood frame has a sticker on the back that lists the wet weight as ABOUT 3150. I forget the actual number.

I would figure between 4500 and 5000 loaded my 2003 weights in at 4800+ with water Propane, pots and pans, Gen and AC,no food or clothes.
Carried it on a F350 DRW for 50,000 miles equiped with airbags and Rancho 9000's did just fine even towing the Jeep on the trailer.

After owning that behemoth of a camper, making it safe on a dually, there is no way in hell anyone needs one of those. Just go out and save $20,000 dollars and pick out a used camper for $5000.

Dually
airbags
extra heavy rims
steal walled tires G series
sway bar
tire pressure monitor

It was stupid.

Good luck in your decision, I no longer keep up with the Jones's.

Add to that dry weight another 595# of mandatory options, like electric jacks and such and the dry weight goes up to over 3600# and then add options like AC and generator if wanted and there is another around 200#. Check out AF brochure and it shows this additional weight there.

Our 2009 AF990 does great on our 01 F350 with no mods.

X2 on kerry4951's comment.

@ tmartin000 . . . . sorry you didn't enjoy your camper but to tell people there's no way anyone needs to own one is just not true. Sure some people can't handle a large camper and true they aren't for everyone but there are many of us out here that really enjoy our massive campers. My 1150 is even larger than your 990 and it handles fine and safely on a nearly bone stock dually (homemade stable loads being the only suspension mod). I use my camper 24/7 and when I go out camping for days or weeks at a time, especially with my kids, the extra space, storage and large holding tanks that come with having a large camper are very nice to have. Personally I wouldn't want one smaller than what I own.

@ homefor2. . . . you'll be fine with your 990 on a dually but the newer the better. I'd personally stay away from 1990's dually's, 10,000 GVW isn't enough. You'll be at least in the 12,000 lb range loaded for camping. Make sure your rear axle weight rating is at least 9000 lbs and you'll be fine.

x3 I started out with a Lance 835 and had some great times with it but we outgrew it and wanted more space. We bought the 990 about 3 years ago and love it. The extra space makes all the difference for us. Don't let anybody try to tell you what you need or don't need or, that your decision to buy a particular camper is "stupid". Do your research and buy the camper that works for you and your family. Just make sure the truck matches the camper. My AF990 with the dually rides better than my Lance 835 did with our Ram 2500. Neither truck had or needed any modifications. Good luck
