And I already hate it. I currently have a Heavy Duty Chevy 2500 van that just clicked 200,000 miles. Evidently, 200k is the magic number for some idiot in upper management to decide that I need a new one. We are a full service company that does HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, lighting, general repair, just about anything thats needed for a building to operate. I currently have a 24' extension ladder, a 12', 8', and 6' ladder, at least 25 different kinds of light bulbs, HVAC repair parts, caulk, paint, R-22 refrigerant, R-410a Refrigerant, Nitrogen, torches, nuts, bolts, wire nuts, etc.etc etc. In other words, its heavy. But, I keep it serviced and clean and it has had very little done to it in the way of repairs.
They are giving me a FORD TRANSIT little minivan looking thing that looks like a skateboard with a box on it. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
I'm so aggrivated I could spit nails. They say its better on gas, blah blah blah whatever. Is it so much better on gas that it covers the three or four trips a day that I'll be making to the parts house to get what I need because I dont have room to haul it all at one time? I'm not even sure that it will haul half of what I have now, much less a couple of boxes of 30x30x2 air filters for one of the 50 ton HVAC units I have to maintain.
Im sure its a great little grocery getter, prolly nice to drive to the beach for the day. But come on guys! Give me something I can WORK WITH!!!!!!

20 years ago I had same situation, except opposite happened. I was hauling generally 700-800 lbs of tools and test equipment (electronics) and time for replacement came up.I was driving a Chev suburan (at times not enough room) and ask for a pu w/ enclosed utility box w/bins. expecting 3/4 HD would be great, will that heard the HD part and I wound up w/ 1 ton HD dually with big wide box and 454 engine. Was a little overkill but it got me up and down mtns usually in hi gear and the ride was great with the long wheelbase. After 6-8 months I left the spare tire in the shop, as it was always in the way and if I needed a spare I had 2 extras on the rear axle. Truck was doing great when I retired 6 years later.
I quickly figured out that you may not get better gas milage in an overloaded mini vehicle versus a properly loaded bigger vehicle. I can tell you when I towed a patio boat behind my Dodge Dakota pickup my MPG went down to under 10 mpg. The same boat towed behind a friends 3/4 ton Chev was at 12 mpg.

It is too late for you now, but Dodge makes a cargo version of their minivan that I think has more room than a Transit. The only problem with the Dodge is that it still has the side windows like the passenger version. Basically they took the passenger version and replaced the carpet with a plastic floor. I almost bought a cargo version for my personal use, but I decided that I might need to carry passengers occasionally and the resale value would be less than a passenger minivan.
Probably the best van for fuel economy and still having lots of room is the Sprinter. The diesel version costs upwards of $35,000, but gets pretty good MPG.
southern, I can see your point and I'm glad to listen to your vent....b-bu-but...you have a free car, gas paid, make the best of it lol!!!
You are right, and I will make the best of it. I always do. And I am truly thankful for my job. I have a great job and I love it, but as with any job there is always the few that want to screw it up.
I emailed my boss and he pretty much told me that I'm stuck with the new one.
Its still a hard pill to swallow, and it will take me some time to figure out what I have to keep and what I have to run back and forth to the store to get.
Not to mention all the ribbing i'm gonna get from the other guys
