I am looking for info. on dealers who have done this re-flash recently for the neutral tow switch modification to allow 4down towing. I have called 4 large Ford dealers in the Tampa area and all I get is "huh never heard of it". I have got a great 2007 Explorer that will make a nice toad if this can be done.
You are not properly phrasing the request.....What you want done is the "neutral tow switch" installed, all the dealers know what and how, if they have the tow kit in stock. The flashing is just part of the entire process, as Ford says you must have the light kit installed to know it is in N.

Well the proper term actually should be reprogramming the computer for the use of the neutral tow kit and no most dealers know nothing about this for the Explorer because Ford no longer supplies the kit. When I have asked about their doing it with an owner installed kit so far all have responded basically no-way. have spent hours researching this issue and searching for one of the original kits to no avail.
Still looking for real help from someone who might know of a dealer who has done this basically anywhere in the South, have Explorer will travel.
As of a few months ago, Ford was back in the neutral tow kit business, but at a very marked up price. Call the Ford customer care hot line and ask them how to go about it. I know of several that have purchased the "new" Ford kit through a dealer in the last 6-8 months, but at what I consider a price gouging amount. No, I don't know what dealers or I would post it.
The neutral tow "kit" is nothing more than an indicator light and some stickers. Ford service also needs to turn on the option in the computer. I bought the kit myself, installed it, then had my local Ford svc. turn on the option for $25 ( Had a pretty good relationship with my local guys)

I have everything you need to make your own kit, including the Ford programming instructions. Mine cost me $12 for my Sport Trac. Send me an Email at ross0737 at aol dot com and let me know which engine you have (V6 or V8) and I'll hook you up.
It's really simple to make your own. Ford sells them for $250 plus installation...
Loren thanks for the help, you will recieve and e-mail shortly.
I was just getting ready to update this post as it appears finally have found a Ford dealership where hopefully this can get done. I actually talked to the tech. who has done this before and finally got a "yea, no problem". The parts dept. did tell me that Ford did now list the switch kit, but it now cost $250, ten times more than what it once sold for! Even he was shaking his head over that.
I will update with the dealer name, in case anyone else in Fl. is interested, once its done and I am towing down the road.
Loren hope you don't mind I sent you an email for the info too. I have a 2007 Explorer I've been wanting to tow since purchasing my MH. Thanks
