We have lived in AL, NC and KS and I could not find anyone that beat the Good Sam premium. We have had the insurance for a long time and with the price breaks for longevity with them, I can't see we could beat it. One thing I found with other insurance companies, the first year quote is low and the second year, it often jumps a significant amount. We have not had a claim but when we were in AL and the hurricanes came through, they called and left a message giving us instructions should we have a claim and they did the same in one of the other states after a disaster. Insurance is tricky and often you end up comparing apples to oranges so make sure you read your policy because it can surprise you.

I have had GS ( GMAC ) Home & Auto insurance for the past 5 years. In the past two the rates have gone up on each of them. So being cheap, I called a few other brand name companies to compare. They also went up for the same reasons. The losses experienced in NV has caused them to raise their rates to cover the increases. Not just GS but all of them. So when compared to the others, GS STILL saved me money. So another 4 months from now I will see how it goes once again.
I wish that I could buy the auto insurance on an annual rate like one of the others does for my daughter though.

Hi, my experiences with insurance quotes from Camping World, Good Sam, and GMAC were somewhat different. GMAC seems to have more benefits than what I have, but I was quoted about $750.00 per six months; Or you could say $1500.00 per year. I pay about $300.00 per year. The very nice lady at Camping World, who asked to get me a quote, couldn't find my travel trailer listed and had to call the main office. She was told that she had to look under Airstream to find it. About a year later, the same very nice lady asked if she could get me a quote for my RV; I told her that she has looked it up before and it was way too high. She said maybe it has changed. I told her that I own an Airstream, and she said, have a nice day. (I have AAA)

Hi cameron368,
Good Sam does not have any Canadian insurance options at this time. We do hope to have arrangements with a Canadian insurance company in the next few months. I will post as soon as we get this completed.

Just bought a 2012 Wildwood 36bhbs and am having it delivered to the campground in MN on Friday the question I have is that in looking around for insurance I first went to Progressive as I have my auto policy through them and they would not cover my camper as it is going to be on the site at the campground permanently. Why is this? Seems to me that there would be far less risk when we are not pulling it down the road? Went to GS and they gave us an estimate of $289/yr.

I'm taking delivery on a new Nexus Phantom 31P on May 2nd. When I shopped around for insurance rates no one could beat my current insurance co, Farm Bureau of TN. I got a quote from GS that was $638 every 6 months. Farm Bureau was $188 for 6 months. Exact same coverage. $638 is 3 times what I pay for my late model F150 pickup which is my full-time vehicle.
BTW: my driving record is spotless.
Needless to say, I'll be getting full coverage with Farm Bureau.

Interesting thread. I do not have my insurance through GS. Let me say that focusing on what the monthly premiums are can be a poor bet. What one needs to focus more closely on is the company's claims processing ratings. How are they handled, how easy are they to deal with, how much do they nitpick what is really covered and then how do they handle renewals after a claim. Singing the praises of an insurance company because thier coverage is cheap is not impressive. Singing thier praises after a claim is. It is also true that premiums are based on many things, not the least of which is the amount of the deductible. The higher the deductible, in other words the less risk the insurance company takes, the less the premium should be.
I am going to be looking for new coverage for my TT, the reason being I want FULL REPLACEMENT Value not Actual Cash Value. Does anyone currently have Full Replacement value coverage on a TT or 5er. Does GS provide Full Replacement Value TT coverage?

LTCLARRY,
Thanks for your post. I totally agree with you that price should not be the primary consideration when looking for RV insurance. When you buy insurance you are buying the promise of a company to be there for you when you need them. Having the right protection and dealing with a reputable company are very important considerations when looking for insurance.
Regarding your TT, Good Sam does represent companies that offer "Full Replacement Cost" coverage for RVs. This is a feature that isn't available from companies that don't specialize in RVs.Some RVs may not qualify for Replacement Cost coverage due to the age of the RV. We also represent companies that offer "Agreed Value" coverage for RVs that are too old to qualify for Replacement Cost. Give us a call at 888-772-1175 and one of our agents will be glad to discuss options to fit your individual needs.
