Hoping someone has driven this road. Good Sam trip guide shows taking Hiway 287 out of Fort Collins to Laramie, WY. It looks like a good road on the atlas but as we all know some of these maps are not accurate. Leaving here on the 20th, heading to Idaho. Thanks for any help or advice you can give us.

Good road from Beaumont, TX to Canada!!! Longest US Highway....

Quick check shows US 1 as longest N/S highway and US 20 for E/W...not everything bigger in TX...
You are right.. I had always been told that it was the longest highway. But you are wrong about it being in Texas! It runs from Beaumont/Port Aurthor TX to the Canadian border!!!!

A few years back this road from Laramie to Fort Collins was listed as one of the most dangerous stretches of roads in the U.S. and, having driven it, I can see why--there is a lot of sketchy passing that goes on along that piece of highway and enough semi traffic to make passing a thrill.
Still it does cut off some miles but we quit using it because getting across Fort Collins was such a pain--whatever miles were saved was more than made up with the aggravation of too much heavy urban traffic getting to and from the interstates.
Having said that, I will mention that it has been many years since I last drove this highway--much could have improved.

Its actually been a while for me on that road too, but last time I took it there was quite a bit of it that had been widened with passing lanes.

One of the reasons for the reputation was the drinking age in Wyoming was 19 and it was a short run for the CSU students out of Fort Collins. Many a partier trying to maneuver that road home on the weekends. I think that has been cracked down on as well.

We drive it whenever we are in Laramie visiting family.

Just like any road, you have to pay attention to conditions. Could be snowy, windy, rainy, or best yet sunny.

The road itself is nice, smooth, passing lanes on most of the hills. Pretty scenery.

Have a nice and safe trip.
