My 2006 6.0 has been perfect - no more or no less service calls than my 7.3 before that. Love the TorgueShift transmission in the 2006. I think most of the 6.0 issues were in the 2003/2004 range.
With that, I personally wouldn't give that kind of money for any truck with 100,000 miles, but you do make it sound like mine must be worth more than I paid for it new!
Last - your pin weight on that rig is going to be closer to 2,500 lbs loaded. 3,000 lbs would be a little extreme for that gross weight.

I had two 2006 F350's with the 6.0 (first one was stolen) and had no problem with either one towing a 15,500# fifth wheel. For something of the size you're looking at, I'd get a dually.

I had a new 2006 F350 SRW 6.0 PSD and towed a 13800 lbs (weighed) 5er with it for 5 years and it did a great job, then traded it in for a 2011 F350 DRW 6.7PSD and tow the same 5er. What a diferance the DRW made in stability.
As for the reason I traded the 6.0 in...all the issues the Ford 6.0 PSD had and the fact that I started to lose coolant from my degass bottle which is a sign of the EGR going bad. If the 6.0 PSD you are looking has an EGR delete kit then go for it, but if not I would look at somthing else. The 7.3 PSD is a great engine, and so far the 6.7 is an outsatnding powerfull engine.

Yes, but pin weight might be a consideration on the 250.

I would be careful and leery of the 05/06 PSD 6.0. Just too many well documented issues.
(many have had good service from theirs, many many have not without expensive protection upgrades.)
Google "Ford 6.0 psd problems" and start reading.
Good luck with your choice.

Do your homework and be prepared to spend a few more bucks getting it bullet proofed. They can be made reliable with a few mods.

id stay far... far away from a 6.0L i may be bias but i have 350,000km combined trouble free KM on my duramax's. When i mean trouble free, im talking nothing other than changing oils/tires/filters. I have quite a few friends that "ran" powerstrokes and now 4 are switching to the new LML duramax, and two are moving to cummins. One purchased a brand new ford and totally blew the motor at 30,000km pulling his 30' fifth wheel. Ford didnt even stand behind their truck and refused to warrenty the issue until he took them to court!

I think you can get a truck in the range you are looking at with a lot less miles and about the same price. Have you checked Carmax? They have a good selection and seem to be priced very good. I bought my 2007 F250 from them for $25,900 in October of 2010 with only 11,000 miles on it and a good OASIS report and clean CarFax. Still under factory power train warranty and runs like a champ.

As a 6.0 owner, I can assure you that you will need to spend some money on the truck, if it hasn't been done already. And you can get screwed badly on those repairs if you don't educate yourself and find the right shops. The right shop will NOT include any Ford dealership. The fact is that diesel ownership, of any brand, is not cheap. If you don't have the pocket depth to spend several thousand at any given time, stay away from diesel and just muddle along with a gasser. If you are budget minded, you cannot afford a diesel. Of course there are exceptions and some run and run and never break. And it doesn't really matter what brand. You can be lucky with any of them. Like most thing in life, and especially owning a diesel, being dumb is very expensive.
