Has anyone done this and with success? I would like to and use an aluminum rack for holding/transporting our bulky chairs or bicycles. Nothing heavy!

Thoughts?

Be careful attaching a rack to the rear bumper of your trailer for carrying stuff like bikes... They really aren't designed or supported for this use.

If you need a rack, make sure you weld/reinforce the bumper or even better, have the rack attached directly to the frame rails.

doesn't matter if it's heavy or not.
your 23B has an ultra-light frame. the only way to install and use a receiver without having it fail, is to have a welding shop weld and brace it to the frame and bumper.
but doing this mod, will void the frame warranty.

you'd be better off geting a rack system for the roof of your Expy.

...Or build a rack above the propane tanks. The rear "bumper" only qualifies as a piece of trim if you ask me.

I SUSPECT that Jayco would advise against it. Any weight you place behind your bumper will act just like a lever on your trailers frame and the feather is a VERY light weight frame. If you MUST do it don't use the bumper for the purpose but attach your receiver to the frame itself.

Thanks. I didn't think it was a good idea but wanted some feedback to see if there was a way to accomplish this safely.

Looks like I will be skipping this mod!

If you do it right you will have no problem. My trailer has had on it since 2001. The previous owner had it put on. I carry two full size mountain bikes on mine. It traveled many miles without incident.

While I totally agree with the voiced opinions on mounting to the bumper, the OP did not mention that he intended mounting on the bumper so I agree with the above post - if it is done right there should be no problem. The question is, what is right? The solution has to involve attaching stronghbacks under the coach to its frame preferably extending at least quarter length forward, and then mounting the hitch to this assembly. I have not engineered such a solution myself since I typically don't remember to investigate it when the trailer is home from the storage lot. I would not do this mod on my RV since it has no reserve CCC as it is.

We've looked at situations like this before. In the past, as now, I recommend the Top Pop Rails bike racks. Top Pop Rack website. They fit what you are looking to do and are mounted in a good place. It also helps because you can see your cargo from the Tow Vehicle.
