Went to buy transmission filters and oil I figured a couple of bucks difference between shops.Wow was I wrong.
Transmission filters at Freightliner 98 dollars and change. Transmission fluid almost 50 dollars a gallon.
Exact same filters at Allison 50 dollars. Same transmission fluid 33 dollars.
I realize it is small purchase but almost double for the exact same products. I'd rather keep that 75 or 80 dollars in my pocket, it pays to shop around.
I asked about that at the Freightliner dealer I use one day. They told me they stock the stuff for use in their shop - and pay the same price for it that we would when walking into an Allison shop. The difference in price is Freightliner's mark up. Seems kinda rich to me too, but I guess they have the right to charge any price they want.
They encouraged me to go across town and buy it from the Allison shop!
I purchase a large amount of merchandise via the internet. I too agree; you must shop for value including shipping and handling. I find some products cost twice as much from some internet suppliers as they do from other suppliers. I do not understand how some companies ever sell anything with their absorbent prices. Also, some companies charge twice as much for S&H for the same product shipped in the same manner as other companies. It remains a "buyer beware" world even when purchasing via the internet.
