I want to use my laptop sometimes where there is no hot spots or where the only connections are password protected. What are the options? I know Virgin Mobile has some but not sure exactly how they work. One option was $10.00 for 10 days? Not sure if they would have to be consecutive days?

T Mobile sells their 4G, 3G, Edge, GSM Myfi for around $60.00 and will connect you with no contract for $49.00 per month with unlimited data. Not good for a SERIOUS internet user but VERY good for checking Email, surfing, accessing bank accounts, paying bills etc. It will connect up to 5 devices at once and when the month is up you decide if you want to renew or let it lapse until you need it again. You can renew on line if you want.

You can get a used 3G or 4G USB modem on Ebay or Craigslist. Buy from a seller with 99.9% approval! Verizon usually has the best coverage, but check in the area where you plan to be. No point in buying a 4G modem if only 3G is available.
You can check on the carrier's web site for info on their prepaid mobile plans. Then you will have to call to activate it the first time, with a CC number. After that you can keep it going with a prepaid card or by calling again.
Verizon has 3GB for $30 that is good for 30 days. That is more than adequate as long as you stay away from uploading or downloading video.

We have used AT&T prepaid internet seemed to work ok, But limited coverage in my area.

Just got Verizon myfi a week ago. With a 2 year contract the appliance costs 19.99 with 50.00 per month usage fee. You can select any 24 months you desire, stopping and restarting via the internet.

Verizon has a cool package from Motorola that includes an android phone (Motorola Razr) and a laptop computer with built in phone dock. Both the phone and computer have wireless internet service via the Verizon wireless smart phone data plan. Pretty cool.

Get you a Virgin wifi to go USB or hot spot router at Walmart. The Virgin devices purchased at Walmart get double the data limit for 20$.Good for 30 days Half price cost for your airtime by having a Walmart purchased device.
They want $130 for the 5 device router and had the USB laptop rolled back to $60 from regular $80 on their website but are now out of stock on them. Walmart super centers have them in stock but all want the regular $80. 60$ deal was website only and they went fast.
The virgin USB devices go for $30 to $40 or so on eBay. Ask the seller if it was purchased at Walmart. If so grab it. A $20 30 day card purchased at Walmart will allow you to purchase the 500 MB Virgin service and double it. Is suposed to double your monthly web serfing time from around roughly 20 or so hours to 40 hours.

The 3G iPad can be had with ATT or Verizon in a variety of plans and no contract. I buy 2GB for 30 days when I go on the road trucking. It will auto renew if not cancelled but once you cancel it still runs until your out of bytes or the 30 days is up.

Have a verizon with a thunderbolt phone. When we go on the road can activate my hotspots on my phone. Cost $30.00 a month and for us unlimited usage. Turn off my internet through centurylink at home and the cost is awash. Can use laptops, my wife's ipad, surf the web while traveling as long as we have phone coverage and having been a pilot in another life, verizon has the best coverage nationwide.
