I got mine in the mail and used the prepaid "no-read" mailer to send the old one back. The "no-read" envelope was inadaquate both ways, charged me several tolls, some for the new tag coming to me and some for the old tag going back as the mail truck passed thru toll booths.
Filed a dispute.

Filed a dispute. Your saying the you were charged toll while the new and old EZ pass (in no read envelope) was in the possession of the USPS?

That happened to me when I mailed an incorrect pass back to EZ-Pass. Since the tag was only read at the exit though, I was charged from the farthest entry point. It took all of about five minutes on the phone to straighten it out and get a credit issued to my account.

Yes, that is what I am saying. I hope I did a good job of explaining it to the customer service rep. He said it may take them several days to determine if I am entitled to a refund. Up to 10 days to acknowlege receipt of the returned tag.
I was hoping that with over a million of these being exchanged that they would be on top of it proactively instead of a complaint by complaint case.

I have three NY EZ-passes, but have not received any replacements for any of mine.

Well, it took almost two months, two filed disputes and three phone calls but they finally credited me for 5 of the 7 charges. Don't know why the two didn't get considered. They were paired with another tag with duplicate (same $) charges. They did follow up with "Dispute Resolved" emails but no explaination. Also a letter that said what the $ adjustment was but not as to how it was determined.

I just ordered the I pass(Illinois) to use here on the east coast, it is compatible with the ez pass - hope to avoid some of the ezpass issues. IMHO, it is not the inaccurate machine/readers - it is the hassle dealing with the humans trying to straighten out the mess. Hope the OP gets a fast resolution.

Wrap the pass in aluminum foil to prevent scanning - do this to the toad pass until needed .

That's a good suggestion, and we have always done that with those in our possession. The replacement tags I was charged for were in the wrap the authority used to mail to me and incurred charges on the way to me. Then using the lined mailer they provided, my old tags incurred charges when mailed back.
