I have an 08 F150 and have had no problems at all except for a bad alternator. It was replaced under warranty.

I have read a few articles about the fuel tanks. Wonder who the supplier of the tanks are. The fuel tank on both of my SuperDutys, a 2004 and a 2008 both have plastic tanks. Not sure what could be flaking off. Oh, wait a minute. I do know that the cab/chassis trucks have steel tanks, at least the rear tank that is behind the axle between the frame rails. Maybe that is what they are talking about, especially since the complaintant is a landscaping business that would employ cab chassis trucks. Could be a real headache especially for diesel engine equipped trucks with their sensitive fuel system. Does bug me when a manufacturer, and Ford is certainly not alone in this regards, knows about a defect but the bean counters figure the odds and roll the dice that no one will take them to court over it.

140,000 miles on my last F150 with no problems of ANY kind (35 gallon tank). What's the rumor THIS time?

If my memory serves, it only affects the SuperDuties and E-series vans with diesels. I've seen the damage with my own four eyes, and personally know the engineer who did some of the analysis. The only thing I know of that they found in affected tanks that they analyzed was high levels of acetic acid in the fuel. However, Ford still has not pinned-down the source of the acetic acid in the fuel. Apparently it can be a byproduct of the production of biodiesel, but the affected trucks haven't been limited to any one region or set of operating conditions. There just wasn't any rhyme or reason to it. Not all the tanks are affected, despite coming from the same supplier, and that isn't making it any easier to figure out.

I'll be curious to see what plays out in the lawsuit... Should be interesting.

No problem with any of the fuel tanks on any of our Fords. I have not had any manaja twa's involving any fuel tanks either....

Hmmm. Had a 2003 F250 V-10 Gasser that died on my one day while backing my fiver into campspot a couple years ago. Ended up replacing the fuel pump. Wonder if this could be the reason.

Have a 14 year old '98 F150 with 300k kms that is being called in for new straps. Imagine! A 14 year old truck driven through the salt for all those winters and the straps rusting???!!! Just replaced the fuel filter a few months ago and it looked fine.

Anyway Ford is gonna replace them I was gonna do it but hey, it's their dime.
