Sorry, I may be a little bias (of course, I LIVE here), but giving up lush greenery and access to water, big or small, in any direction wouldn't be worth the price difference to me.
Don't know where we'll be next year.........heck don't know where we'll be in a month from now.
We travel all year.......north/south/east/west/sideways/roundy-round.
Sat in one place for years (S&B)....went FT to travel.
We rarely stay in any one place longer than a month. We have made friends in many areas (fellow travelers) and meet up/run across as we/they move about. Right now in TX Hill County N/W bound....for now

There are some nice parks in the Valley for $300/month if taken for four months or more. $265 X 4 = $1,060 savings. Just a rough estimate based on three winters in South Florida and five in the RGV.
We have reservations in Rockport Tx. for this coming Oct. Getting there a month sooner this time. Great Park an great people fishing is pretty durn good also.

First year out and just over a month in RGV, Llano Grande, @ 680 + electric. Loved the place with way more to do than my body would recognize as "good for it" but loved the people and place. We have friends there from our FMCA Northern Lights group so that made it even better. In a great park in Corpus now, and headed for Galveston and LA. Going back to RGV seems like a good idea, but we've not been to Arizona and New Mexico so will probably head that way next winter. We've spent too much time in Florida with my brother and though we love beaches and water, I guess the idea of a MH is to travel, not to sit in one place for too long. Hope that answers some of your question.

We have friends that keep going back to the same place year after year after year after year. Their length of stays keep getting longer. I think one is almost up to six months now. Personally I can't see it. I figure they put wheels on these things to get out and see America. I will admit that the price of fuel has increased our length of stays. Two weeks is nice for us and then I get "hitch itch". By four weeks I am ready for new scenery. Have to get a really good price break for longer stays. Maybe when we are ready to settle down will we addapt to the resort destination thing.

We've been in the RGV for 5 years now. Bought our lot 4 years ago because of the greenery (full lawn with underground sprinklers) palm trees (ours),fruit trees (ours), within 1 hours drive to the water and any kind of eatery or shopping center you would be interested in. What keeps us coming back is the friends we've met that also return, and the very inexpensive entertainment every day and night of the week. You just can't beat it. Oh, did I mention the wind? That's what keeps our 80+ degrees tolerable. Happy Trails, y'all!

Of course, I was referring to lush greenery everywhere, not just what I chose to put in my little space.
I was also referring to hundreds of choices for water activities, all of which are very close.
I like breezes, but winds tend to be irritating to me (sensitive eyes, but that's just a personal thing).
There are a lot of nice places to go, and I guess they're just priced on demand, amenities, and general location. Like most things in life, my feeling is you pretty much get what you pay for.
To each his own, but I must agree that meeting new friends is positively a priceless experience, regardless of the locale.............
