Texas Hill country has been a great place but we're done with this park. Owners could care less if we are happy. We're going to AZ next year then back to a different park in the Hill Country for a month.

This was our second year snowbirding, but our first as Winter Texans in the Hill Country. A little cooler than Arizona, but the friends we made more than compensated for it. We had to leave earlier than planned because of a death in the family, but as we left we made reservations to go back next winter.

Where did you stay in the Hill Country. We are looking to go there next year.

We spent our first winter in Florida and weather wise, it was hard to beat. Usually we go to RGV in Texas. Both places have their advantages. I enjoyed being close to water in Florida, but sure missed all the activities and entertainment that goes on in the RGV. Also misssed the trips to Progresso. Florida was definitely more expensive than Texas, both for rents and entertainment. Bottom line - not sure where we will go next year.

Something else - everyone criticizes the RGV for the wind - which helps keep the temperatures comfortable. We noticed it was also quite windy in some of the parks we stayed at in Florida - difference was in Florida it was a cold wind from the Gulf - in Texas it is a warmer wind usually.

We hibernate in Ft. Myers. I'd like to travel more, but Jan & Feb it's too cold.
Florida has some deals if you look for them. I saw a college fraternity "spring breaking" at Cayo Costa state park. The campsite was $25/nite for what must have been 25 kids. They had a huge tent on the beach.

Well, I'm a bachelor, travelling alone, and this winter in Florida was my first anywhere. Personally the private campgrounds are not for me. I can understand why some people like them, though, in order to make friends etc. I didn't make any advance reservations to state parks, but found that with a little work I was able to take advantage of cancellations and stay pretty well full time in one park or another. Florida has some wonderful parks all right, and I started getting into bird photography as a pastime. Had lots of fun. Anyway I keep hearing about the wind in Texas, and I'm tempted to go back to Florida, but I bought my little trailer to travel and so will be trying Texas next winter. And whether I love it or not, it will be Arizona the year after.

We have our reservations all in place for our lot here in Florida for next season. Only hope the weather can be as good as it has been for this season.

(RGV again next year. $1,000 cheaper than Florida. Pretty darn windy though.)

Not sure where your staying at that rate , but I am in a county park ( Larry Penny ) south of Miami which is nicer then most parks I have been in and the rate here is 565 dollars a month, lot nicer then resorts I have saw, this my 17th winter here and for sure will be back next year,

There are some nice parks in the Valley for $300/month if taken for four months or more. $265 X 4 = $1,060 savings. Just a rough estimate based on three winters in South Florida and five in the RGV.

Would you care to identify some of the nice $300 parks? We're heading back to RGV next year but have not selecvted a park yet.

We winter in Mexico. Hard to beat $2.75 a gallon gas, $15 a night RV spots on the beach with full hook ups and 80+ temps consistently.
