We're picking up our Columbus 320RS next weekend. DW wants me to put up a new map on the outside as we have now.
I say it's OK to stick the states we've visited on the new map, a friend says we can only stick on states once we've re-visited them in our new fiver.
What do you say?

I didn't know there were rules about doing this.
Further thought...
DW is always correct.

You do it which way you want too!
If I have been there, I would put it on.
Doesn't make any difference if it's a new RV or an older one....

You now have my permission to use your old map or start off with a new one. Only you and no one else has been given this level of responsibility and choice, so decide carefully.
Kidding aside, I've always thought the map represented where YOU have been, not the rig. What if you bought a used rig where the previous owners had been everywhere? But, it's your choice. There are no rules.

I've always just put on states where I've been in a particular unit, but if you've been there, I'd think it fair game. After all, it's really what the map means to you.
The cartography police will not come get you. I promise. I have a degree in it.

Your map, your rules
On further review, your map....DW's rules
Personally, I'd put where you have been.....there are folks that have had a half-dozen RVs, and have travel all over.....if they only use their latest one as a Park Model, but want to let folks know where they have been, it's up to them.
As mentioned, the Map Police won't be knocking at your door!

How about this opinion - maps on the outside are tacky. If you must have one, put it on your dining table instead.

It's your RIG..........
Personally I don't like sticking things that fade, peel, discolor or leave their impression when removed due to fade/discoloring on my rigs.......bumper stickers, maps etc. cars/trucks/campers.
We have a USA map inside rig that we track out routes/places etc. on. Our rule is we don't count a state unless we have stayed at least a week (overnight doesn't qualify) and have gone out adventuring in the area.
We have a map for each year on the road.......working on 6th map right now.
It's your RIG......
