CA POPPY - the dogs are mine and stick to me like velcro and lint. Kitty (a rescue)was just 7 weeks old when she met DH, she crawled up his suit when he came to pick me up for a date, nestled on his shoulder and purred into his ear and I instantly became a non-entity. She howled for him when he would drop me off and leave after a date - crying at the door as if she had been abandonned in a house afire. I had to marry him to shut her up. LOL
Code - I am watching the paws. The swelling is almost gone, there is no heat, no drainage - nothing. It is like it never happened. But, I have put in a call to the vet - he is in surgery today, so I do not expect an answer until this evening.
All is well.

It's as good a reason as I've ever heard, Susan.

So how is Ms Kitty doing now? Is all forgiven? I'll bet she's healed up just fine. Kitty spit is apparently a pretty effective medicine.

Iris - you are a great nurse, and this thread has made me laugh (I know, it wasn't funny for YOU!). I've dealt with untamed horses and brutish dogs - but NOTHING is more terrifying than a peeved CAT!!! I admire your bravery in dealing with this and getting not an ounce of gratitude from the kitty... :-)

Well, I didn't marry him for the cat's sake but now I wonder if she is the reason he married me? LOL Just kidding. It was love at first sight, all the way round, really.
Not an ounce of gratitude from her, I am invisible for all but her most basic needs.
It is like it never happened. She is jumping around, the paws healed seemingly overnight and all is well. What I don't understand is why she isn't shedding her claws. She needs to climb a tree, but DH won't let her out in the yard because of racoons and she will stay out too late. Really? Sounds like a teenager we are talking about. If she would only make friends with the Dane, no bad cats would be able to get near her and she could play in the yard all day. It is cat heaven out there. Well, it was before the hawks moved into the tree next door and coyotes started to be spotted in neighborhoods.
All is well.

Animals do heal much more quickly than humans do...
They just don't when they get older, and that's all there is to it. It's a common issue with senior kitties in my experience. You can encourage her with a nice TALL scratching post... most are too short for cats these days. Spritzing with catnip spray can increase usage. But mostly I would grab her and check her weekly and snip anything that's getting long or thick. Combine the activity with a favorite snack given just after, and it will be less despised.
If you do it once a week, it will take you three seconds and there won't be any more drama. Better yet, make DH do it, since she likes him!

Code2High - hahahaha DH clipping claws? Now, that is funny. Tonight is trauma night, I will track her down, capture and torture her with the toenail clipper again. Probably the most traumatic bit for her was that the dogs seemed very interested in, and amused by, her misery which only made her hate them all the more.
