I always try to do a search before I ask a question and 99% of the time I can't find it even if I know I've read about. Can you overnight at any of these rest areas?

If they are the ones I remember from six weeks ago, I would say probably not. They were very minimalist. I particularly remember one not having a parking lot, just a wide lane where you parked parallel on one curb or the other. It was like a throwback to the 1950's.
Hopefully someone can provide better info.

In general, you are allowed to sleep at Texas rest stops, but you probably already knew that. Are you asking about how pleasant they are, or where they are, or something else?
I'd still watch out for overnighting in Van Horn. I haven't heard any resolution to their reputation of being RV-unfriendly. I seem to remember an official rest stop just east of city limits, but don't recall how nice it was.
This site's search engine is poor-to-none. I usually do a Google search and include "RV.net" in the search term. Too much good information here to risk an internal search.

The one just east of Van Horn is very nice and we have stayed there since the town became RV unfriendly. It is around 10 miles east of town and above the road level, so not real noisy..

Thanks for the info. We've only been boondocking/drydocking for 1 1/2 yrs so never really paid attention to info about rest areas. This is our first winter trip. When we leave in mid May it is to hot to stop without hookups.

While it was not a rest area we stayed at the Walmart in Ft Stockton about a year ago. I cannot remember any rest areas but it was dark and a year ago.

there's a rest area just west of Sierra Blanca.
one west of Van Horn and one east of Van Horn. these two are like the old fashioned picnic stops.

Thank you Texas for not closing your rest/picnic areas like other states are doing!

Why not spend the night in El Paso and do some hiking? We have the largest state park within city limits, and it's an entire mountain with a tram! The views at night are amazing from transmontain road and scenic drive.

We usually stay at this Walmart in Fort Stockton. Going west, we can then make it through ElPaso without stopping. If you stay there, get there early because by 4:00pm its hard to find a spot. Usually at least 10 or 12 rigs there and the lot is not very big. It's not a SuperWalmart.
