As my signature shows I've average about 7.1 over 60,000 miles tracking every gallon by hand. My coach weighs 21,900lb on average and toad is 4,020lb so I'm around 26,000lb total on average.
Today I was looking over my records and noticed on a cross country trip from California to New Jersey and back that I averaged about 7.4 mpg going east and on the return trip averaged 6.5 going west.
The winds are generally blowing to the east and that accounts for the differance due to head winds and tail winds.
I'll offer some advice.
If you are going to be concerned about fuel mileage and the cost of it then you will tend to not travel as much. I don't care what the fuel costs and have developed a mental attitude of ignoring the dollars on the fuel pump. I'll be dead one of these days and I can't take it with me.
I do keep track of the milage though as it tells me if my engine is performing as it should and also helps me calculate the overall cost of a trip for planning purposes.
So my advice is don't buy an RV if you can't afford the fuel.

Nothing is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

Around the country I hand calculated 8.9 mpg for my ISB diesel. The MH reports 9.4 mpg which is inaccurate. Never trust what is calculated by the MH.
If I stay in FL for the winter I calculate 9.6 to 9.7 mpg. Those mountains out west have an effect.

We h ave gone about 35,000 since getting our W22 Chassis Newmar. The gas mileage is usually around 8 mpg. We have never been without the toad so don't know what it would be without. We drive around 62 mph for less downshifting and always in OD. We did get over 10 on one trip with a good tailwind.

My 8.1L gaser with the Allison 6-speed is typically in the 6.9-7.1 mpg range with the toad and 7.8-8.0 mpg without the toad. These numbers are over a typical 500 mile run on a combination of flat & hilly interstates.

2005 Allegro Bus 40' - 400ISL Cummins. We tow an 08' HHR. I average 8.2-8.4 depending on my speed and of course headwinds. I have not seen a difference towing or not towing, but I am not as conscience as most about my speed. If the highway is smooth I'll cruise about 68-70 mph. If it is a rough road(Hwy 40 in Arkansas!), I'll drop down to about 63-65 mph. We pretty much always run the generator for HVAC and the residential refrigerator. In fact, I couldn't tell you what difference the generator makes on mpg, because it seems to always be on. Having said all this, we have only put about 12,000 miles on this rig. Also, we are not full time yet. Most people haul a lot more stuff then we do.(Weight)

Disneyfix wrote: Just give us an Average please of mpg and rig you are using.. I can't figure out the drag coefficient of a headwind at 20mph?!@#$%...
I am just trying to get a grasp on what to expect from a Class A rig fuel mileage wise. At 4-5-6 mpg I might have to rethink the buying strategy. If I can I will try to keep list in this 1st post.
Thanks

Mileage varies depending on terrain, speed, and wind. Never get
the same mileage twice. Average from 7.1 to 8.3.idn't really
buy it for gas mileage-it's been our home for going on 7 years.
Great life!!

2006 Ford F53 18,000 lbs chassis with a rolling weight of 15,900 lbs. Toad is a 1998 Honda Accord 2 door weighing about 3000 lbs.
Low milages has been 6.8 MPG (heavy traffic around DC on a trip to Hershey PA), highest seen average was 8.3 MPG(cross North and South Carolina on I95 to Charleston SC). Cruise control set for 2500 RPM which is about 65 MPH. Toad pulls milage down about .3-.5 MPG.
