Anyone want to take a jab at it?
I would like to compare it to, say the 6.4 in another thread that cost $15k to rebuild...
Thanks!
Not even close.....better be around 3K if all the work is done at the shop, if you are doing all but the machining $1500.00.
You can buy a rebuilt long block shipped for under $2500.00

My guess would be that something else broke before the timing gear. The 460 I built to replace my 400M had a RV cam that made lots of power at lower rpms but didn't like high rpms because of the long stroke that comes with a 460.
There is one thing I can say about that motor with RV cam, milled heads, bored 30 over, MSD ignition, Edelbrock manifold and carb, custom exhaust, built C6 with RV stall converter and 4.10 rear end it would pull down a house if you could keep the tires from burning off and fuel in the tank .

Exactly my thoughts and that I don't really need (now don't want) a

The 460 will likely cost about 1/3rd or less of what a late model diesel V8 (DuraMax or Powerstroke 6.0, 6.4, 7.2) would cost to do a complete rebuild.

A crate motor from Summit might be the easy way if $$ are right. (I haven't looked) We launched one at high RPMs a few years back and the rebuild cost did not make sense - there was very little to salvage. We spent a few dollars more for a better build and ended up with a much stronger truck.

Actually, the Ford 460 has a stroke of 3.85", which is short for a big block. In comparison, a 350 Chevy has a stroke of 3.48". With the Ford 460's stroke only being roughly 3/8" longer, it should be especially adept at high rpms because of it's stroke.
