One way to cut down the wait time is to pay $5.00 per head and ride a richshaw back over the border. That took about a half hour, instead of 1-2 hours. However, this method is also subject to lines. Also depends on how many rigs are running. Last Wednesdaay there were five rigs each carrying from 3 to 6 customers.

If you're talking about Algodones it is really dependent on time of day and day of week. If you are talking San Luis Rio Colorado, south of Yuma, pack a meal regardless of the time of day or day of week. Last time we came back that way, it was over 1½ hour in line, at 11am and then 45 minutes in inspection.

the Texan has it pretty well covered. You forgot to mention whether you are walking or driving. Walking at Algodones can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. When I was at San Luis there was virtually no wait to walk across but I was told that is not normal.

If you are driving at San Luis, don't take the SENTRI lanes because they look shorter. These lanes take a special pass and they don't take kindly to someone trying to use the lanes without the apss.

As said depends on time of day. booze stores open at 11 am. And then the line grows. Never waiter till five P.M. or so.

We have always planned our trips to where we are heading back before noon on any day. That way you have little or no line to contend with. If you get caught there much later, you stand the chance of it being 2 hours plus to get back.
Thats the walk across at Algodones.
If you get glasses, we just return the next day to pick them up in the mornings and plan dental appointments for mornings.

Unless you are going for medical reasons( glasses or dental etc) the best time to go is Saturday or Sunday. No waiting on week ends.

My neighbor was down this AM. He purchased a bottle of Kaluia (SP)at 11AM when they can start to sell liquor. Walked to the border crossing, stopped at the turnstile and in a moment was on his way. There were two agents working at the time. Of course this might had something to do with the nippy weather this morning.
