We have put a bid in to work in the gatehouse. It is a 4 daya week job, 15 hours per work day. I requires 2 people of course. It is a day park, no overnight camping. has anyone woeked in this area. it is a corp of engineers park. Thanks Bob
I believe all of the parks at Lavon Lake are contracted with OLWF (Our Lands and Waters Foundation which partners with the Corps. The hours are normally 6 am - 10:00 pm for each shift.
I have been contracting with OLWF for the gatehouse at Westlake Day Use Park on Lake Lewisville for about 1 1/2 years. They are great to work with. Most of your contact will be with the Corps Rangers/volunteers and of course the public.
During the week I volunteer in the regional office recruiting/interviewing and referring volunteers for six lakes.
If I can do anything to help you or you want additional information you can PM me.
Yes OLWF is correct. They must be having a problem filling this spot. They originally sent me a bid package in January. We did not respond at that time. We just got another bid request last week. It starts April 1st. I bid pretty high so I don't know if we will be successful. Thanks MUch. Bob
Good Luck, you are going to need it. It will hotter than Hades every day. Hopefully the gatehouse has an industrial sized AC unit. Also the clientel isn't 100% the Cream of the Crop.
The hours are not the best. Carefully read the bid requirements. Both persons are required to be in the gatehouse almost the entire time. We are in a similar situation at another Dallas area day use park. Our work shift is for seven consecutive days but the day is split with two couples with each couple working about six hours. We are then off for seven consecutive days. The hours and the amount of days off was the reason we did not bid OLWF's jobs.
The bid package was rewritten. It states that only one person has to be in the guardhouse. The hours are 6am till sundown 4 days a week. I originally did not bid because of the way it was written. I figure you are talking 15 to 16 hours a day times 4 days. I put quite a high bid in. In fact very high. The highest I nave heard of was $140.. per in in a park in Ky. My bid was a lot higher than that. I seriously doubt we will get it, but I'm only going to work those long hours if it pays well. Will keep you informed. Thanks Bob
