Hello all. I posted a thread last week concerning the installation of a Pullrite 16k SuperSlide hitch on my Ford F350 ShortBox and my search for a toolbox replacement solution. I think I need to be more direct in my question, which is ... For those of you out there using this hitch, how much clearance might there be from the hitch to the front bedrail edge? Basically looking for the dimension of my next box. Currently considering a box 60"Length x 18"Tall x 20"Deep/Wide. Will there be more than 20" clearance forward to the cab from the hitch? What are the toolbox dimensions that worked for YOUR Ford/Chevy shortbox?
Oh, and while some had suggested I may be able to use the old box, it rises 5.5" above the rail. Too tall, I'm fearing.
Really appreciate the feedback. I've always viewed this Forum as important as having RV insurance. This is our first brand new rig and first 5th wheel. Apologies for all the questions. Staring to lose a little sleep over some of the many unknowns.
Cheers~!
And now, time for the NEW sig .....

On my Ram there is 19" from the tubes to the inside front of the bed and 5 1/2" from the botom of the bed to the top of the tubes. Don't know if this helps or not. I have a 6'3 bed on my truck.

Budman, I am sorry but I cannot answer your question directly. My hitch is not mounted in the truck right now, for me to measure.
But something to consider....The box may fit in front of the hitch, but the problem will be for the handle to clear the box as you make a turn. Because as you turn to the left, the handle swings toward the right. And since it sticks out the left side of the hitch, when it swings to the right, it will interfere with what ever is in front of the hitch.
What you can do is remove the handle from the hitch. Then re-insert the handle thru the hole, and into the hitch when you need to un-hitch. You don't need to hook up the springs and stuff. When you're done with the handle just pull it out and stow it in the truck for the next time you need it.

I don't have a tool box in front of my Pullrite. What I do have is a Pace-Edwards roll up tonneau cover. The box for that goes back 14" from the front of the pickup box towards the Super-Glide without issue.

Hey Budman,
I have a Better Built slope top tool box. I did have it in my SB Dodge and the one thing I had to do was build up the base as the bottom would not set down in the bed because the fender wheels were in the way. This put the tool box about 4" above the bed rails. When I had the tool box in the Dodge I never pulled the trailer with it. I now have it in my LB and works great. My Better Built is about the same aize as you are looking at. I would use a cardboard cutout the size of the bottom side of the toolbox and lay it in the bed to see if it is going to clear the front of the fender wheels.
I have the one on page 14 and is 56X20X18"

I stack wood in front of my hitch when we head out or my GIANT cooler right behind the cab and never had anything come close to hitting the handle.

I have used a different way to get around this issue. I purchased a used toolbox for a Ranger sized pickup. The box then sits below the rails, I use a double side opening box. $20 for the box.

Thank you for all the replies! Much appreciated. I had no idea that the hitch handle on the Pullrite could be removed. I had been a bit worried about the proximity of the handle to the box when making left-hand turns. Good info to have for sure.
And thanks, Butch, for the Better Built tip. Nice boxes. Price not too bad either. Apparently Lowes carries them. Cool.
Thanks again for all the feedback. As a fiver newbie, this info is certainly comforting.
Cheers~!

like I said I have 19 3/4 in and as you turn the hitch moves away from the tool box so clears when hooked to the trailer.
