update
we have the truck!
the first 610 fell through (deal was cooked then a local stopped by with cash so seller dumped it on me)
found a 2nd 610 but with a 3 pedal auto (improvement! more $'s but worth it i believe)
flew out to the truck on wed/bought truck on thursday/drove 1800 miles back home by saturday night
its a 2000; vnl 610 with 230" single; tow chassis with a pair of very nice sealed aluminum boxes in front of the rear wheels; interior is in awesome condition with leather like bostrom's front and rear; weedburner exhaust
impressions
- drives out very nice but you need to watch for stale green lights; you aren't going to want any panic stops
- 4 wheelers are annoying when your in traffic
- the clutch is pretty heavy; if you have to wait out a dual light you notice it
- we brought back a pair of quads on the box; that worked awesome
- truck is loud on the outside(ISM); definately louder then an ISL or Detroit d series; not horrible but i can definately hear it over the ISL in the pusher
- i've driven semi's in the past so this wasn't a huge adjustment; but if i hadn't driven one before the front side of 1800 miles wouldn't have been the place to start learning 
- the ride is awesome! 230" vs 180" ish is a very big deal; wife is very happy with the ride
- turns very well; but not like a pickup (230" is pretty lengthy) getting the cyclone spun around in our cul du sac will be interesting 
- the 3 pedal auto is sweet; but i really don't want to ever deal with a torque lock; in retrospect i'm glad the super 10 610 didn't happen
The only issue on the return drip was that it started sluffing oil out from the oil filter. Checked it over and filter was loose; tighted it up as best I could with a racket strap and some cussing; signficantly improved but its still leaking a bit. Need to get a racket wrench that fits the filter so I can get it tight enough; kinda annoying.
All in all,
The kid loves the truck; wife likes it; neighbors are on the fence the 5er shows up next week then both of the rigs will be out of town that will be nice!

oh; and since it was 1800 miles with an untested truck I bought Good Sam ERS platium. Didn't need it until we got home; found the wifes truck with keys locked inside sitting inside the garage. 
Using the ERS was a great experience; definately would recommend that service.

called a 30 year cummins mechanic; on the ISM sounds like it isn't that uncommon
he said
get a good webbing wrench; snug it up tight; then crank on it; you'll need to crank pretty hard; he's stopping by tonight to demonstrate

Is it normal to have to tighten an oil filter that tight on those?...anyone?
