To be honest.. There are dump stations where this is how it's done! There is a park in Alberta in Kananaskis country that used to be that way (maybe not anymore) I think it was Mt Kidd. Anyhow.. There was no way to dump with a hose! Had me scratching my head the first time.. You simply positioned your drain over a grate and fired away.. After you were expected to rinse it down with the supplied hose.. Actually a really handy way to do it IF it's set up that way. Maybe those idiots are just sheltered? I don't know.. trying to give them a break.. maybe they don't deserve..

Last time I was there they also gave me their black tank chemicals to use rather than my own.

It's my understanding that Racheria is on their own septic system. They have you dump first (into city sewer?) to get rid of any chemicals that might contaminate their system and then use their chemicals only while in the park to keep the system contaminate free.

Now that would be cool on one hand -- just pull up to a grate and let 'er rip. However, I'm sure the smell would be overwhelming if there wasn't a flushing system in place.

I remember seeing an article with pictures about some company that was selling dump stations including installation to anyplace that didn't normally have one. I think they were targeting rest stops on expressways and gas stations. There was a charge to the RVer for using it (a buck or two, if I remember correctly) and your charge card didn't come back until you put everything back where it belonged. And the company that was selling them would come by and empty the tank from time to time. Seems like I saw the article a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen one of the dump stations yet, or didn't notice it.

Yep, one county fairgrounds where we stop periodically has a 3'x3' concrete curb surrounding a manhole cover sized hole and you drape your hose into the 3'x3' area and let'er fly. I remember a couple rest areas that we stopped in that had a recessed area beside the drive and you just pulled up close and pulled the handle. No hose necessary. Very convenient but not very common.
The ones that get me are the ones with the drain connection 6" above ground and you have to "walk" the sewage thru the hose to get it up to where it will drain.

What I was thinking too....probably worth the cost to replace them every once in a while than to have to continuously clean up after others. Plus he let two dump at the same time into one hole. Pretty cool!

yep, thats a classic double dumper trick. I just hope people remember to hang up the hose when they are done....or you may get some 'feedback'.
This is a great idea so long as people aren't pigs!
