I'm interested in finding out just what grounded the OP's 6.4? I doubt anyone following this thread really cares about someone else's fuel mileage. 12mpg or 16mpg, they all suck.....but most of the time get the job done. I can't believe how positive the OP's attitude was when his travel plans were crushed. I'd be steaming mad. Many of us wait and plan all year long for that BIG vacation. That guy has incredible character. Good luck my friend! Please keep us in the loop.

It's the rear end,and you can get a 4:10 but max 5th wheel weight is about 15,000 lbs.

!!!!That is sorta what happened to us. We were supposed to go southwest for the winter but had to stick around for an upcoming minor surgery. So we rambled around Florida for the winter instead - the weather was fabulous. The Southwest had major snowstorms.
Now our trip to Alaska has been delayed for about three weeks due to another upcoming unexpected minor surgery. I'm keeping my eyes on the news this next month.
I think someone is keeping an eye out for us.

That would be my novice guess also!
PS I don't get anywhere near 16mpg towing with our 07 LMM Duramax. And I drive like an old man! (which I am).

Good luck OP. As 6.4's are starting to get some higher mileage now the problems are starting to add up. If its fixed on Fords dime you might start thinking about a extended warrany or a replacement. You can certainly learn a bunch on the Ford forums. There is so many potential problems I wouldn't guess myself. This member pretty much sums them up.

We TOTALLY get what you're thinking - have been there (recently). Planned to hit the road to fulltime for a years - a month before leaving found out that I'd need surgery (major, but not life threatening). Then once that was taken care of, in the mail arrived my summons for jury duty for the following month. Got that taken care of, then within a couple weeks while driving in Nevada, our roof blew off. We were having the same thoughts & conversations as you are right now. We even posted a similar thread in RV.net forums. Trust us - it is not an omen/karma and it means nothing. It will pass and you will love your rig & traveling. Hang in there!!!
Happy Travels!

I'm not sure on the 6.4 but on the 6.0 the 4.30 option on a dually was the Tow Boss option. It increased the GCWR capacity from the standard 23K to 26K. My 2006 F550 6.0 had 4.88 rear, The F450 Cab Chasis was avaiable in either 4.30 or 4.88 with the diesel, the F450 pickups have 4.30.

I had something similar, engine would rev, no power, a little oil drip. Ended up just being the turbo air intake hose blew off. I guess this its somewhat common.
