I have a travel trailer, and now I need to purchase a tow vehicle. I would like to buy an older truck, maybe an 80's model. Something cheap and reliable. I don't know much about towing or how to figure out what vehicles have adequate power to pull my trailer, so I could use some recommendations.

Mt trailer has an unloaded weight of 5472 and the gross vehicle weight is 7576.

Can someone please advise?

Thanks!

At least a 3/4 ton truck. May get away with a 1/2 but could be a case of the tail wagging the dog. More details of your trailer would be great.

Nice, I like the clean tongue area. Are both the battery and propane tanks under that cover on the front?

3/4 ton for sure. You'll need a good WD hitch and I'd recommend a sway control as well.

Ya, she's big. How far do you want to go? How often do you want to go?

When purchasing an older truck it's CURRENT condition is a lot more important than who manufactured it. I'd agree that in that age range you'd be looking at a 3/4 ton truck to handle that much weight.

Good luck / Skip

Wow you guys "dry" weight of 5472 lbs requires a 3/4 ton?

What CAN a 1/2 ton truck tow according to you?

Is it the year truck that bothers you? The newer 1/2 ton's can easily handle this trailer...

Thanks, the propane tanks are under the cover and the battery is in front of the cover

I plan to full time...but I probably will not change locations that often. Mostly I will be keeping the trailer in one location and will need to move it periodically to have the tanks dumped, along with maybe traveling a few times a year for vacations.
