Hi All,
Just need a small light weight 1000 watt generator to recharge batteries every once in a while on the 5th wheel. Read lots of good stuff on the Champion 2000 watt inverter generator. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the 1000 watt model? Here is a link to the data sheet:

I have a champion 3500 watt generator and paid less than 300 for it, and it has seen lots of use for the past 5 years. Yes it's made in China and has the knock-off Honda clone engine but it has done just fine. If you will only use it occasionally it would be good, but if you were a full-timer I'd spend the bucks for honda or yamaha

A 1KW genny isn't big enough to run some larger battery chargers.

Quote: A 1KW genny isn't big enough to run some larger battery chargers. The eu1000i maxes out between 40 and 45 amps on a converter without power factor correction. Some eu1000i users with PD converters and a really low battery force the converter out of boost mode for a while for the initial high-current part of the charging.

We have a 3500/4000 that we use at deer camp and it runs darn near the whole week at a time. It has never failed to start and to handle the loads we throwed at it.. good for the money..

There isn't much difference in price and size between the 1000 watt model and the 2000 watt model. Yes, the 1000 watt is OK for charging a battery, but why not pay slightly more and get a 2000 watt model which can do a lot more? If you ever want to run two generators in tandem for boondocking, you can get another CPE 2000 watt model.
There are only two times I would recommend a 1000 watt generator:
1: If you never, and I mean never, boondock or dry camp. Then, the 1000 watt generator is good to have just in case of emergency.
2: If you have a built in genset in your rig such as a Generac or Onan, and need something small for battery charging, and in some cases getting enough charge in the batteries so the main generator can start.
In either case, I'd look to find a physically smaller generator than the CPE model. Powerhouse and red/blue both have ones that are very compact, and can easily go inside a storage compartment.

I use a Yamaha 1000 for when the sun doesn't have a chance against heavy clouds or there is a wad of snow on the solar, and it works fine to keep enough power in the batteries for the TV. We don't ever worry about the air or microwave. The 1000 is very light and small, so I can get it into my storage easily.

Just a reminder that the 1000w Champ is a rebadged Kipor. I considered it before as well for a small genny as I don't use the 4K all the time and decided on the 2000w instead. It is only a couple of pounds diffeerence and gives a little more flexibility to what I can run if I need to.

Not anymore. The one listed by the OP is not the Kipor rebadged one.
I was hoping to pick up one of the CPE Kipor 1000W models but they're not making it anymore.
