Last weeks storm dropped 53" 2 Badger Pass in Yosemite. Those lucky enough to be there had spectacular views.

We'll arrive March 30th, cant wait.

That might set the opening of Tioga Pass back a week or two.

Thanks for sharing.

After the long delayed closing of Tioga this year (mid-January), it's nice to see they finally got some "real" snow.

Glad to see that!! Beautiful photos. This should help keep the falls flowing a little longer. They were saying that with the little snow we had prior to that storm, there wouldn't be much flow beyond early June. We were there one July after a dry winter (no where near as dry as this year) and you could stand under Lower Yosemite Falls, it was just a mist.

Are they keeping Badger Pass open beyond April 1st? Heading up late next week and hoping to go snowshoeing to Dewey Point and maybe Crane Flat to the Lookout.

Badger Pass was open yesterday when we were driving out of the park, but you might try sending an email and ask. They normally get back to me within 24 hours.

Since those were webcam shots (and not your own personal shots), I felt like it was ok to take some liberties with the Half Dome from Sentinel Dome shot. (I hope that is all right.) I uploaded it to Picasa, cropped it, and adjusted the lighting slightly. Here it is in color:

And here it is in black and white, sort of the Ansel Adams treatment:

Wow!! Are those webcam shots, or did someone go up and get them in the snow? The shot from Sentinel Dome of Half Dome covered in snow is a prize-winner -- but the only way to get there would be via back-country skis with climbing skins, and that is a very long way from Badger Pass, especially in fresh soft deep untracked heavy slow difficult snow. I am out of breath just thinking about the effort this would take.

But I would do it to get that shot.

The pictures are from the web cams. I got lucky and caught the break in the clouds. The clouds and sun off the granite this time of year is spectacular
