for us we never offer help unless we 'kinda see' a situation starting.

like the late beach arrivals. we sat under our awning in our comfy lounge chairs relaxing, watching this poor guy try over and over to get that angle and get that camper into the site. finally hubby said, wow, I gotta go help this guy. But like others said, if the person said, ah, we are ok, then hubby would say, let me know if you need help at any time and walk. Then we would sit down again and watch the show

I've had peple offer us help a few times and I just say, no thanks, we got it but I appreciate the offer. I mean it doesn't have to be so complicated.

I am new to RVing so can someone answer this question.

It's 11pm, the campsite is quiet and a new rver turns up. Is it acceptable for this new rver to

1. Turn up at this time
2. Keep the engine running for 10 mins whilst parking etc
3. Set up his RV with levellelers, sewer pipes etc.

If I had turned up late for whatever reason I would pull into the spot and do all the adjustments and set ups the day after.

Am I wrong to be getting mad at people doing this??

This happened to me when we were camped out at the Grant Campground in Yellowstone. We were just star gazing anyway so I fired up a couple lanterns and scurried over there to see what I could do to speed up the process. I think the light was most appreciated.

I have to say that you are WAY too upset over this. I am an old truck drier and can get into any spot I need to. Most people are not that blessed or skilled. Now I have had times when the trip did not go as planned, lost a tire, caught in fires with road closers and so on. I have rolled into sites very late. I will leave the engine running for the 10 min I need to get it correct. I would rather hear an engine running then hear it start 10 times.

I do not care if people roll in late because there may be an issue why they are late. Maybe they got a late start or any number of things. Now they may take 10 to 20 min to get it right, but who cares as long as they do not hit something, like my trailer. I understand and say to myself, self!, I bet they had a long day and just want to go to sleep but just wants to get most of the work done tonight and sleep-in. And think "Man I have been there"!

Now I always try to be polite and will accept help if needed. I will say that I pity the person who comes into my site and starts an issue with me at 11 at night, or anytime, after a LONG day and have issue about me setting up. I am not the person you want to make the mistake of exchanging "pleasantries" with at any time. I am also the person that will never and never has cared what another camper does unless it hurts or endangers my family or encroaches on my space. And then I always ask and say please to the people when asking for their assistance with the issue and say thank you when done. And doing it this way I have not had issue with another camper in my 20 plus years of RV'ing.

We are ALL R.V'ers and out for a fun time and should not let the little stuff bother us. Befriend them and buy him / them a soda-pop the next day and have a BLAST for the entire time you are their neighbor. A campfire and 'Smores' makes all things better! JMHO!

whatever.

some things in any situation will happen. late campers arriving will happen, probably not often, but it might. So get bothered if you want.

Personally, I think the original poster a point. Yeah, I cut everyone slack but sometimes annoyance at other campers is justified.

I once was tent camping when a rig arrived long after quiet time and proceeded to park and set up. The wife got out and shouted instructions to the driver as he maneuvered into the site. "TURN IT TO THE LEFT. NO, THE OTHER WAY! GO FORWARD, NOW BACKUP TO THE RIGHT. NO, THE OTHER WAY." Now the driver went forward, then back for what seemed like forever all the while the wife shouting instructions and the kids running wild yelling. Once the vehicle was stopped, a period of door slamming and banging followed.

In this case, I really didn't care what their personal problems were that led to their late arrival. This group was simply beyond good manners considering the time of day and their noise level.

Expecting other campers to be considerate isn't asking very much. On the other hand, don't go out of your way looking for others' transgressions.

Arriving late and being too loud or making unnecessary noise are two different issues.
As long as one is as quiet as possible arriving late is generally not a major issue. Excessive noise can be an issue anytime of day

yup.
the OP did not mention anything about noise, shouting, unruly behavior, or any other 'reason to be bothered'. just a normal set up late at night. if done reasonably, it can be on the quiet side obviously.

everyone is throwing tons of extra issues into the original post.

It's threads like these that make me hope I never run into an RV.net member out on the road...

a) If I arrive late, I'm a inconsiderate douche
b) If I pull over at Walmart to avoid arriving late, I'm a douche who clearly can't afford to stay the night at a campground and support local business - and therefore shouldn't be RVing.
