I had a couple in a rental RV wake me up at midnight trying to back into a space behind me. I looked out the window say they were trying to see using a mini-maglite. I put on some cloths and went out with a led lantern and five-cell flashlight and helped guide them in. Took about five minutes and they were thrilled for the assistance. Sometimes things happen and you get there late. I don't get upset unless they are having a loud drunken arguement while setting up.

While pulling in late disturbs those around us it is a necessary evil. Some people have to work for a living and can't arrive during daylight hours. The practice is more prevelant in winter.

That's why a lot of rv parks have a long term parking area and pull thru sites for those just passing thru. If I get there late and are staying for a while, I'll ask to park in the pull thru and change in the morning.

Well you have the other way it is dawn at 5:30 and someone is hooking up to leave and their rig is running for 20 minutes to warm up and hook up. Is that any different than someone coming in at 11:00? I would rather someone come in at 11:00 and wake me than wake me up at 5:30 I can go back to sleep at 11:30 more so than 6:00. If I wanted to get up at 5:30 I would set an alarm thank you. I can understand a late arrival they might have broke down, had a flat or even got stuck in a traffic jam. If you want to get on the road early hook up the night before unhook you electric and water, start you rig and drive off, it is the rig running that wakes you up not putting away the hose and electric cable.

IMO, the etiquette is "Don't sweat the small stuff"!
If you stop to think about it, nearly all these petty annoyances that people get so uptight about are "petty stuff"!
I am in a campground to enjoy myself. I find it difficult (if not impossible) to enjoy myself if I am in a constant state of aggravation because my neighbor isn't doing things "my way".
So, therefore, I ignore it. That makes life MUCH more enjoyable! I strongly recommend it to everyone.
But, if you enjoy stressing out over every little thing, well, continue on continuing on! It is after all, YOUR life, live it YOUR way!
Please allow me the same consideration.

That's all well & good, but the OP is talking about somebody arriving late -- not leaving early.

Since I go to State Parks for the most part, it's a pretty standard thing for people to come in late and leave early.. It used to 'bug' me, but now it's just another part of the experience and why I chose to RV in the first place...

I did a post about why do people leave their outside lights on all night and got an education on that as well...

I still feel it's inconsiderate (leaving outside lights on all night), but that's my opinion and I don't want people preaching to me, so I don't preach to others... I'll give you my opinion if you ask me however...

I'm like mower... I don't let it bother me anymore, because I don't have any control over it...

People watching is part of the 'adventure' and it's amazing what people in the world do out there! I'm sure I entertain my share of people watchers too!

Happy camping to all!

Mitch

Amen, mowermech! Do you think that family WANTED to show up at 11:00 p.m.? Things happen. And instead of complaining about it, go out there and give your new neighbor a hand. At 11:00, I'm sure help would be appreciated!

I am new to RVing so can someone answer this question.

It's 11pm, the campsite is quiet and a new rver turns up. Is it acceptable for this new rver to

1. Turn up at this time
2. Keep the engine running for 10 mins whilst parking etc
3. Set up his RV with levellelers, sewer pipes etc.

If I had turned up late for whatever reason I would pull into the spot and do all the adjustments and set ups the day after.

Am I wrong to be getting mad at people doing this??

I would not get blown out of shape over it if someone did it. But at the same time I would try not to show up so late, and if I did, would back in and only hook up the electric to get me through the night. But then I am self contained and have fresh water available on board. I can level and set up in the morning. And I have set up the next day in the past, no problem!

I'm with eHoefler above. I would get up, get dressed, go over and offer to help, with a flash light in my hand. We never know what kind of day the other traveler has had.
And I have never gotten to a campground late. We usually plan to arrive around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

Not everyone will be as receptive to you coming over like that. Many, and like I've read about many on here, like to keep to themselves and the hell with you.

Just this weekend we were camping and there was a camper that was somewhat beside us. I watched the guy set up a satellite dish and for a long while go out and keep adjusting it and pointing a compass or something like it in the air. After watching for a good while, I remembered I had a satellite finder device in the camper that I purchased last year. Since we no longer have satellite service I figure I would offer to give it to him. I walked over and I got this eat******and die look. I offered it to him, but he already had one. With the attitude I received I turned around and left.
