It really seems a waste throwing away those small tanks filled with propane when empty. Looks like there is some kind of place where they can be refilled and not taking up space in landfills.

Refill them,....its done all the time.
Takes a little experience to make it easy tho.
Its illegal for commercials to refill and/or transport them.
But no problem doing it yourself. Just don't get them too full, because they will start to bleed off in hot weather, or when taking to higher elevations.

I put mine in the recycle bin. My city allows it. Another option is to save them up and take them to a recycling facility. I agree though.....I hate throwing stuff in the trash....such a waste.

You can purchase an adapter that screws into the 20 pound bottles, and then you connect the one pound bottle to it. Invert the 20 pounder after opening the valve. The LP will flow into the smaller bottle. (Not quickly!)
You don't end up with a full pound of propane, but it does work well.
I've seen these adapters at Harbor Freight Tools, or on eBay.
Cost is about $17.00

You get nothing for them up here, unless you've got a truckload full.

This topic has been discussed "ad infinitum." Some people will refill, I do, and others will not due to "safety" reasons. Your call. Do a search and you'll come up with many posts on this topic.

was camping last weekend at Provincial park here, and noticed at the recycle/ garbage dropoff they now have "orange" bins for the small propane tank recycling.
