I've owned and used many GPS units, many brands, many options. My first Garmin was the original Street Pilot. For street navigation, I prefer Garmin.
That being said, there is not ONE I trust to not send me the wrong way, sometime.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Test it to see if it can find Illinois Beach State Park -South Unit.
If it puts you going East on Shiloh Blvd in Zion IL, DO NOT buy it.
The only one I have seen that gets it right is the Nextar.
I just asked my Garmin Dezl 560 to route me to Illinois Beach State Park. Here are it's directions in the area.
On I-94, take exit 29 to US 41
Keep left on Skokie Hwy
Exit right on IL-132/Grand Ave
Turn right on Grand Ave
Turn Left on N Green Bay Rd
Turn Right on W Wadsworth Rd.
Arrive at park.

It just took you 10 miles out of the way...
If you are coming from the North, it should be:
On I-94, take exit 29 to US 41 (Exit is on the left)
Keep left onto Skokie Hwy
Turn Left on W Wadsworth Rd.
Arrive at park.
If coming from the South:
I-94 to IL-132/Grand Ave/Six Flags
Exit right on IL-132/Grand Ave
Turn right on Grand Ave
Turn Left on Dilleys Rd
Turn Left on W Wadsworth Rd.
Arrive at park.

I see the map database has been updated and your Garmin no longer takes you to the Nuclear Power Plant.
Zion NPP was on lock-down for a few years with Marines guarding the gate. There was no place to turn around (24 ft between curbs) so with some of the big MHs or a TT you would have to back up for 1/4 mile to find a place to make a three point turn.
It took me two years to get MapQuest to correct their database.

I've had two Garmins. They worked fine, but I am going to try the Tom Tom GPS app on iPhone and iPad this RV season coming up. I still have my Garmin. So far I am liking the Tom Tom GPS app. It seems more versatile than my old Garmin.
In regard to maps the Garmin always ticked me off because it couldn't even get my street right. There is another street that tees into my street so Garmin always says to turn left onto it and then immediately left on my street. Problem is the actual design of the street, printed street maps, the street signs and everything else says the other street should not enter into the directions. Tom Tom got it right. So I yell at my Garmin at the end of every trip.
Garmin is better at picking up non public streets like park roads and parking lots. Tom Tom ignores them so it looks like you are driving in a green field.
The nicest thing about Tom Tom is if you miss a turn on purpose or by accident it does not bleat out the "Recalculating!" like Garmin does. It just quietly goes about revising its directions.
I'm a blue highway back roads rambling driver. The most annoying thing about Garmin is it tries to force you to major highways and interstates even if they are not the best or fastest routes. Setting for shortest route doesn't help as it can get you in some very weird situations. I don't have enough experience yet with Tom Tom.

Have not heard the word recalculating, since I got the new Garmin...But with the Tom Tom, if I did not take the route it picked, it spent the next 30 miles telling me to turn around at every intersection, no thanks....

Although my Street Pilot 2610 that still works but has aged out of support, it's 7 years old, now, used to say "off route, recalculating," I've not heard that from my Dezl 560. When I choose to go "off route," or do so accidentally, the Dezl simply recalculates and gives me the next turn to efficiently head me back to the programmed destination.

I love my Garmin. That is not to say the others are bad. I am just used to the Garmin. All the menus operate differently and IMHO the Garmins are just a little easier to get through.
