Hello everyone. I have a Galaxy Tab smartphone/mini tablet combo. Yes, it's that relatively new Galaxy Note. On an excellent web site related to many electronics, the guys/gals recommend the Walmart Straight Talk with ATT for my carrier. I am trying to figure out whether to use my land line phone number or my seldom used cell phone number? As I approach retirement AND intend to full time, I am leaning toward the land line because it is the number that I have used for 37 or so years, but you guys may know better. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thank-You. Louie

Assume you move your long-time land line number to your new cell phone, and get a another number for your land line. With most cell phones, when you wish, you can forward calls to your cell back to your new home number.
Usually *72 turns on forwarding and *73 turns it off. Your cell carrier can give you specifics for your phone.
This means that you can have your long-time number ring to your cell, or when you wish, you can forward it back to your home phone.

The way I read this it seems that he is going to sell the house and fulltime. If so, I would keep the house number for your new phone. Many people know you at that number and it is a hassle to get them to use another one.

One advantage of leaving your land line connected and having calls forwarded to your cell phone is potential burglers won't know you're gone. (Crooks will call your home phone to see if you answer. If you do answer, they just say it's a wrong number.)

Boy, after hearing so many people with land lines complain about all of the marketers and politicians calling their land lines, I can't in good conscience say to keep the land line.

You might look into Home Phone Connect, for $19.99.. It is a wireless setup that connects to verizon but you use it like a home phone and you can take it with you.. They will allow you to Port your home phone number.. there is no time limit on use..
Just google home phone connect to get all the details...

Unless you plan on staying fairly close to urban areas AT&T is probably not the best choice of carriers. Verizon and Sprint both have better coverage. We use Verizon, travel all over the country and are rarely without phone or internet coverage.
We did not keep our old phone number - I am not sure we even had that option ten years ago - and went with our cell phone number.
When the time comes to leave the road we will not have a land line but will keep our cell phones and numbers.

Since dumping our home phone number, the telemarketers have been very disappointed. Charities have not been able to get thru and the answer machine is now history. Family members understand and have done the same thing. Now we have his and her cell phones with Internet access. Life is good !!

We haven't had a land line in nearly a decade. None of our kids has one anymore either. Very few telemarketers is a great benefit.
It's nothing to notify friends, relatives, banker of a new #. You'll need to give everyone a change of address (to your mail forwarder) at the same time.
