I don't have the new 6.7 cummins but I'll stack my '06 5.9 cummins against that ford diesel any day of the week in real world towing. I pull an 18k gooseneck horse trailer with a 5.9 cummins around 10k miles every year. The fords can't stay with me, the duramax will but not fords even with lighter trailers.
Now if you are talking about a Hemi forget it. Not enough engine for your trailer
The biggest difference you are seeing is the difference in an inline 6 cylinder motor versus a V-8 design.
Sure the Cummins is not going to drag race, accelerate, as good as your Ford, but are you buying to drag race or tow?????
For you will find that the power difference will be negligible once you are towing down the highway. The inline 6 Cummins develops most of its power at a lower RPM compared to the Powerstroke, so running both engines at say 1900 RPM'S, there would not be much difference in power.

This shows up as less trans shifting and staying in high gear far more often. This makes the Cummins a more relaxed and enjoyable tow vehicle overall.
These are the words of various magazine and TV reviews, not just mine.
awesome! These are the kinds of replies I was looking for. thanks!
The low end torque is higher than the Fords and the GMs. The in-line six is naturally a smother running engine, just in design alone. I pull a 40' 16K fifth wheel, the new Fords may out pull me on the top end, but from a stand still, I can out pull them at a lower RPM. I have the 4.10s as well. There is no DEF, and the Dodge exhaust brake is more effective than both the Ford and GM in slowing you down.

When I look at the torque and HP curves for the Ford and Dodge, the Ford looks a little better.
Dodge- 350HP@3,013RPM, Torque-650@1500RPM. 400lbs torque at 800RPM.
Ford- 400HP@2800RPM, Torque-800@1600RPM. 400lbs torque@ 800RPM.
At 1500RPM(when the Dodge reaches peak torque), the Ford still produces more torque and the torque is increasing.
