We just found a great deal on a 2000 McKenzie Medallion 29FKS. Our current tow vehicle would be our 2006 Ford Expedition 4x4. We are planning a trip to Oregon from Texas and will be most likely relocated there. Is my current tow rig/Travel Trailer acceptable? would also like to hear of the best way there or should i say the flattest way! My wife and I are new to this and wanted to travel relocate and enjoy our time together.I have purchase a 10K lb. weight distribution hitch with sway control.

Make sure your Expedition has the tow package with the aux trans cooler. I towed a 28' trailer with my expedition quite well. I later found out however, that I did not have the tow package I thought I had and the lack of the trans cooler was causing high trans temp.

That sounds like a lot of TT for even the most capable Expy. I was not able to find any weights, but generally front kitchen models are tongue heavy which is a limit for your Expy.

What engine, what gears, does it have a tow package? Who is "we"? Just you and the wife? Or you and the wife and 5 kids?
Lots of questions need to be answered to give you a great answer to your question.

Depends on FULLY LOADED TT weight. Your limit is tongue weight spec on Ford. Can't say on yours, but likely under 1000# limit. You want 13% on the tongue, so max loaded TT weight, for say 850# tongue limit, would be 6540#. You need to find your specs.
On our Expedition it took more washers than we expected in Equal-i-zer to get rear TV GAWR in spec. We did it ok, but took several tries. You need to weigh carefully and adjust as needed.
Have fun.

IMO,,,, It will be a struggle with that vehicle.Sounds like a big trailer. I had a older expedition and one of the draw backs that I found was the coil suspension in the rear. Made things a little sloppy. Having said that,,, I had a good Reece dual cam sway control hitch and towed to Calif for two years with a 24ft,gvw of 6550lbs and a traveling loaded weight of around 5500lbs TT. Really slow on the hills but then I don't run my vehicles ,foot to the floor. Check on Fords Fleet site and find the towing limits for the truck. Good luck

with a probable UVW of around 7200lbs. and 30' long, i wouldn't tow it with a 1/2 soft-suspension SUV. i'm guessing the trailer's tongue weight will be over the Expy's max hitch weight.
it'll probably weigh over 8000lbs. loaded for camping and IMHO, that's traditional 3/4 ton territory, along with the tongue weight being too much for the Expy.

Not sure what your weights are, but i just traded my 03 Expedition with the HD tow package off. I was towing a 5200lb trailer which it handled with ease however I wouldn't have wanted to go much more than a 1000 or 1500lbs more. Your first and biggest problem as the others have said is the tongue weight. I loved the Expy but it was time to move up a bit. My personal opinion and its just that is that the Expy is a little doggy on the hills. I think if your not over your limits you will be at the very top end.
