My car can tow up to 1500#. What do you recommend for a pop up camper that will be safe for my car to tow?

Hey there 4thwatch:
What kind of car do you plan on using and how many passengers (lbs of weight do you plan on having in the car all total?
PS... We tow with a car and it works great.

You would need to really hunt for something and check the weights and ratings on what you might find locally. A very small popup, a small teardrop should fit the bill, but nothing that has a high profile.

This one will work. Remember - your 1500 probably includes passengers and gear.

with four 150 lb. people in your car you'd need a trailer that weighs 900 lb. fully loaded. Most lawn mower trailers weight nearly that much. You'll need to find the smallest possible trailer. Probably a tear drop would be your best bet. Good luck / Skip

Sure a tear drop could work but depending on the vehicle etc there could be many options.

I have a little Subaru Impreza and the passengers are currently just me and my dog. I have been a tent camper forever, but it would be nice to stay a little dryer. The gross weight in the manual says 3900# and the trailer hitch recommends pulling 1500# or less. It pulls a sunfish sailboat just fine, but that is pretty light.
The Go campers are too expensive and Aliners are too far from KC. I'm checking out Quicksilver.
Thank you

I pulled a small 8' popup with my 1998 Subaru Impreza and it handled fine, stopped fine, etc. I live in the mountains and I could pull that little popup up the mountains at about 65 mph with no slowing down. Then I had to go and have 2 babies and we couldn't all (gotta take the dogs) fit in the car, nor the popup. It still got decently good gas mileage towing, too, much better than any other vehicle I have had.

You have a well built, reliable vehicle. With a dry weight of over 3,000lbs it should easily handle a trailer half it's weight. Be sure to connect it appropriately. Brakes on the trailer would be recommended. Shop around, there are some nice trailers for your vehicle.
