It had the big mill/hemi, but was a very heavy large car.
The 57 Rebel was compact sized, with the 327 AMC mill. Power to weight ratio was important.
At the time Popular mechanix tested the 57 Rebel they considered it and the current for the time Corvette the two hottest cars on the road.http://jubileejeeps.org/327/57rebel.htm
Amazing. I am an AMC fan (had 3 including a 70 AMX) but didn't know about the early Rebel Muscle car. Thnxs for posting.
Had a 68 AMX with the factory "Go Package" and 390 engine. What a little beast! Can you believe I sold it for $2,000.00 back in the 80's. Who knew that they would be worth so much nowadays.
Also a later Rebel Muscle car came out from AMC called "The Machine" by Hurst.

Mine was a 1962 Chevy Impala SS 409 425hp with dual Quad carter carbs. Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4 speed. Manual Steering, Manual Drum brakes all the way around.
Very fast car, actually handled well it had nice sway bars front and rear.
My first car was the family station wagon. My dad ordered it 1966 to get the new Turbo400 trans He had to order the 396 to get this trans. It also had posi rear. years after he bought it he was having work done. It was discovered it had the 375 HP 396 in it. We just figured when it came down the line they just grabbed the fist 396 to install in it. This was one fast car. Put lots of nice cars to shame back in the day. It was one heck of a sleeper.

I remember in my neighborhood, a neighbor down the street had a porcupine head 409 Impala.
My sister's boyfriend(future bro in law) bought a 406 Ford Galaxie which was Ford's answer to Chevy's 409. In stock form you could hear my bro in law coming down the street to stop by. That 406 had a rumble to the exhausts that was very loud. Those were the early Nascar engines......Guess you could throw in the Chrysler 392 Hemi also, before it was enlarged to a 426.
66 GTO.Don't have that one as it was totaled, however I have 2 more. That is why I could never go full time.Must return home every few months just to feel the power when the tri-power opens up.
1929 Model A Ford Sport Coupe....Father son restoration project. Drove it during high school. All stock except for paint and upholstery. Great memories
Finally, a second vehicle older than mine. Sometimes I feel like I'm ancient. Half the cars mentioned here I would call nearly new!

First car was a 73 Vega, got it free from my sister when she got a new car. I put more oil than gas in that car!!! Had to take it off the road in 78, Rust, rust and more rust, the doors wouldn't close properly
First car I actually paid for, 67 Barracuda 273 V8 Auto Paid $200 in 1978. Never actually got it on the road, way too much rust, rot and more rust. Actually sold it for $500. It was worth more in parts!
In 1978 again(78 was a big year in cars for me)got a 71 Plymouth Satelite Sebring, 318. Quicky swapped in a 440 with 727 auto and 8.75 rear end with 3:91 gears, switched all the badging and grille over to a Road Runner. Great driver with gobbs of power
Years later a 70 Road Runner 383 4 speed (440 when I got it)
Current, 67 Coronet RT 440 4 speed. This ones a keeper, all original
