I have Directv with 2 DVR's at home. I take them with me when I travel in the MH. I have 2 cables from the dish to a combiner (not the right name) then two cables to each DVR.
I'm looking at whole house HD DVR set up. I was wondering how the HD DVR is wired. Reading the Direct web site. I understand I will need the HD DVR and another HD receiver. Just not sure how the system is wired and can I take the units along in the MH.

If they are HD receivers, all you need is HDMI cables to hook them up to your two TV's and a 5 LNB antenna to receive the necessary DirecTV satellites. Coax into each of the receivers and HDMI out to the TV's.

Todger: What are you using for a dish in your RV? Rooftop? Tripod? If Tripod is it an 5 LNB Slimline SWM dish?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not concerned about the TV hookup but rather are the HD units wired the same way as the standard DVR's.

We have the whole house DVR setup at home and carry part of it with us in the RV.
The setup is as follows:
Antenna (one fixed on the roof at home, another one mounted on a tripod for the RV).
Both antennas have the SWM (single wire multiplexor) with one RG6 coax going to the power inserter (one in the basement at home, also one in the RV basement).
From the power inserter, RG-6 to a splitter (again, one in the basement at home, and one in the RV basement).
From the splitter, one RG-6 cable to each TV location (4 at home, 2 in the RV).
At each TV location, either an HD DVR or an HD receiver (you need at least one DVR to have the whole house/whole RV capability). The RG-6 cable at each DVR/receiver location goes into a special splitter that has an RG6 going into the antenna connection on the back of the DVR or receiver, plus a Cat 5 (internet) cable that connects to the Internet connection on the back of the DVR or receiver (note: the newest DVRs and receivers have the splitter built in internally so only need just the R6 connection).
You can schedule recordings at each DVR, for only that DVR to record. You can replay recorded shows from any DVR at any receiver or DVR. The recorded shows menu integrates all of the recorded shows in one list for replay selection.
I believe that you have to have the SWM setup for the whole house DVR capability.

X2 on this setup. The only thing I will add is that the switches and splitters between the sat. dish and recievers must be SWM approved. Regular one's don't work, at least not for me.

Sounds about right for the most part... If he has a problem he can call a technician out and get it done professionally.

So:
RG6 Coax from SWM equipped Antenna to Power Inserter.
RG6 Coax from Power Inserter through a swm digital splitter to each TV location.
HD DVR at one TV location.
HD Receiver at other TV location.
What if:
Coax from antenna to the HD DVR.
An HDMI to Coax connection was installed prior to the Power Inserter.
Coax from Power Inserter to SWM Splitter.
Then:
Would each TV location receive an HD signal via Coax, albeit the same signal on each TV?
Thanks for any insight.
