I was wondering if anyone has parked unit close to rim in a small town and drove toad into entrance then stayed overnight back at coach. Where did you park? Or have you boondocked in forest close to village. Was debating weather to stay at trailer village for one day. Thanks.

We stayed in the NF....there are a number of different roads a mile or so south of Tusayan, that lead off of the Highway into the forest for some nice private camping. It did look like it could get muddy when wet though. THe camping areas in the NF are easy to spot. We drove to the Grand Canyon with our toad.
The Ten X campground was not open when we were up there....if memory serves, I don't think they open the Ten X until May 1.
We stayed at Camper Village. Its just 6 miles from the entrance and we drove to the canyon any time of the day and night. Sunrise was beautiful, sunset was beautiful, rainbow was beautiful...we really liked the convenience of this campground.
Are you thinking about going there sooner or this summer? There might be feet of snow on the ground after this last storm.
It is something like 6,500' elevation, and north rim will not open the roads or clear them of feet of snow until middle of may, depending on the weather, and how deep it got this spring. April 30 would be a record soon opening for North Rim at 7,500' elevation. Very nice up there in the summer, you can dry camp in any of the forest area for free, but can not camp outside a designated campground inside the National Park area.

X-2, Last time that I was there Fred, we went thru the canyon in the early AM. We stopped for breakfast at the cafe next to the Grand Canyon Post Office! After breakfast we went out to the cafe parking lot and there was 4" of snow on the ground and you could only see about 20'. There was a lady from New York there sobbing in the parking lot because she couldn't see anything and had to return back to the airport. I made a beeline in the motorhome for Flagstaff when I arrived there for a gas stop there was 2' feet of snow. I headed for Sedona 1-1/2' of snow and spent the night in Phoenix only 3/4" of snow there. Grand Canyon to Sedona can get real nasty very fast if a cold front comes into that area.
